Well, today, I hit the road with halfdimenut (hereafter referred to as HDN
because I don't know if he wants me to use his real name or not, and typing halfdimenut every time I want to mention him is gonna get old) , and we went to a couple of spots where I've had some luck in the past. But nothing like today! The ground was just right, and good targets were everywhere!
I dug 11 silver coins and a couple of pieces of silver jewelry today, which is the best day I've had in 3 or 4 years. I just don't get out like I used to, and when I do, I'm usually in the 1-3 range, if I don't get skunked, so I am STOKED today! We hunted all day, and I'm pretty tired, but it was a great time. HDN found a couple of keepers too, but I'll let him post them, if he's going to, without giving away what they are.
I found 5 indians today too, and 17 wheaties, but they're filthy and I don't wanna go through the hassle of cleaning them up to post 'em. . .
It's the silver that I go out looking for anyway. It's what I'm really after.
I nicked the barber quarter. . .
but I'm still glad I dug it. We both listened to the signal on that one. It was deep and clear as a bell with no iron around it (not too many of those signals left these days), and I thought it was a dime, but HDN noticed that from one angle it jumped up to quarter. Sure enough, when I turned my machine back on and checked it, it was jumping up there on my machine too. I didn't think it would be a barber though. It was in the area where I was finding some early mercs, so I was hoping it would be a SLQ, but I'm really happy it was a barber - first barber quarter I've found in a couple of years! It was 9 - 10 inches down, and off to the side in the bottom of the hole, I should have pinpointed it with the probe, which I usually do, but I thought I could go all around it with the digger without hitting it. Next time, I'll be more careful. It has a full Liberty though! I really wish I hadn't gouged it!
The seated dime was a total surprise! I was digging another indian hit, but I saw silver lying in the bottom of the hole. There was some other debris in the hole with it, that I guess was dropping the signal down a couple of notches. I was happy to be wrong! It's a beauty, in pretty good shape. The nicest seated coin I've found in a while. . .
Those are the highpoints of the day for sure, but it was still fun watching the mercs popping out every so often, and hanging out with HDN, who is a great guy. Too bad golddigger couldn't make it today, although he probably would've found all my silver! Still, even when he does that, it's always fun to hunt with him, and hopefully he can go next time we head out.

Here's the stuff from last weekend, when Golddigger, HDN and I headed into the flatlands for a quick little raid. . .the barber dime was a highlight that day, although I always like digging early mercs too. Still, after today, it seems kind of anticlimactic to post this. . .

A couple of great hunts, with a couple of great hunting buddies. It just doesn't get any better. . .
Good hunting,
Mark
