Last Weekend Finds.

Here is last weekends hunt finds. Hope everyone is finding a few goodies themselves.

Saturday.....Tim and I headed back out to do some detecting together and decided to head out into Minnesota Country once again. Originally......I was hoping to meet up with Chris(SoCenWI) Saturday as well and do some hunting but plans changed. I was going to call Chris when I was in the area and when I went to call him, my work cell phone was dead. Don't know how that happened since I never leave the phone so I'm guessing it must have gotten bumped and turned on thus the dead battery. Anyways....I picked up Tim (after I woke him up) and we got going a little before 6:00am. On the way, I noticed my cell phone was dead and was going to use Tim's to call Chris but then realized I didn't write down the number but programmed it into my work cell phone. The thing with the phone is that my boss never got a car charger for it....only a wall charger and that was sitting at home so that plan wasn't going to work. Well then I decided to go check a few things out on the way and it took more time than I thought since I didn't know there was so many stops with potential sites.

First stop was at a Township Hall. There was a number on a paper and we called it and got permission to hunt the site. It went back to around 1922 and we only spent about a half hour or so here. Tim was the only one who found anything here....a Barber Dime, Buffalo Nickel and a Wheatie in one hole. It was also sprinkling once again and Tim and I sure hoped that the rain would stop which it did a few hours later.

Second stop was at a Country Church. As we approached the Church there was a few vehicles there so we drove by slowly to check the place out and see what was going on. There had been a new sidewalk put in recently and there was a few men there filling in along the sidewalk with dirt. I turned the car around and parked along the road. Tim got out and asked if we could hunt the Church Yard. One of the fella's was from the Congregation and he said sure you can....go ahead. Before this stop and not too far from here a small town had been hit by a Tornado a few days before and we had driven into town without knowing this. There was a ton of Tree's and Buildings damaged by this Tornado. There was a Turkey Farm of 25,000 Birds that was totally destroyed and you could see the path of the Tornado which left debri for miles. We were driving along and there was actually half of a Grain Bin up in a Large Tree....and it wasn't just stuck up there......it was wrapped and CRUSHED!!! around the Tree itself from the force of the Tornado's Wind and it was a good 40' up in the Tree. Now that was something to see! Irrigation Systems in the Farm Fields were pushed over and some ripped and torn apart. Lots of damage with work crews everywhere working on Electrical Poles and cleaning up debri left by the Tornado. Large Tree Belts were also shredded which just added to the devistation of the Tornado's Rampage. Tim talked to the fella at the Church and the fella said that one of his cousin's died from that storm and that it was actually more than one Tornado that did a lot of the damage. It was a total mess for miles and hope that the people that needed help got it.

Anyways.....after Tim chatted with the guy, we tried the Church Yard. I think Tim found a Wheatie and that was it. All I got was a Deep Silver Rosie from there so someone must have already hit it pretty hard in the past. Before we left....Tim walked up to the guy he had talked too and gave him a Cigar since he had been smoking one before. He thanked Tim and we said thanks for letting us detect. Then we moved onward.

Site 3 was an in town Church where some work had been done probably in the last 2-3 months. It seemed like a building was torn down or something since there was a sidewalk leading into the yard and then stopped where newer grass had been planted awhile back. We tried the Boulevard first hoping we would see someone which we did. They waved and we waved back as they went into the Church. They came out later and we got the needed permission to hunt the yard. We got a few things from here with Tim getting some Wheats and a Barber Dime and also a Clad Kennedy Half Dollar. I got a No-Date Standing Liberty Quarter, a Clad Kennedy Half Dollar, an Indian Head, a Merc and a few Wheats.

Site 4 was the best site of the day....which turned out to be another Church. We came across this one also and got the permission to hunt it from a Neighboring Farmer which told us he knew the Pastor and the Congregation wouldn't care since others had been there before us. We hunted this for a few hours....mainly finding the Coins in the Parking Area. I found a few Wheats up in the Yard and so did Tim but no Silver. The Silver that we did find was in the Parking Area. Tim found a Canadian Silver Dime and a bunch of Wheats. I ended up getting a Silver Quarter and 3 Silver Rosie's. I also found a few Wheats and 2 Buffalo Nickels and 3 Older Jefferson Nickels. One of the Wheats I got was a '24-d as well. We then left and was going to head back to that Fairgrounds where I had gotten Barber from but that didn't happen. As I drove I asked Tim which roads to take and he told me......the only thing is that the road wasn't the one I was wanting and I had to stop the car and take the map from him to figure out where we were. I found where we were and we were about 20 miles off course of where I wanted to be. So I said too heck with it and decided to just keep driving and see what was in the next town.

The next town yielded a Fairgrounds which we had to stop and try. It was pretty big but I think most of it was modernized meaning dirt moved around. We hunted this for about an hour with minimal results. Tim got a '19 Wheatie. I had some luck though and found 2 Injuns dated 06 and 07 in one hole. Shortly after this I found another 07 Injun. As I detected.....I kept hoping to find at least a Barber Dime since Tim had 2 of them for the day and the day was just about over. As I walked I came across an indentation in the ground where a Tree had once been. I got a strong 30 on Digital and knew right away that it was a Quarter. It showed about 4" Deep and the last time I got a Quarter Signal next to a Tree, it turned out to be Barber so I was hoping for this. I dug a plug and took some dirt out. I thought I seen something round come out in the dirt but lost it. I tried the X-1 Probe and it sang out. I picked up a dirt clump and there she was.....the back of a Barber Quarter. YEEEHAAAAAA!!!!!! I covered the hole and went over to show Tim. Tim couldn't believe it! Heck...I couldn't either since the signals here were very few and far between. We left shortly thereafter with another successful hunt in the books.

Sunday, I headed back into Minnesota to try and hook up with Chris(SoCenWI), which I did. We tried the Fairgrounds like Chris mentioned in his post and couldn't even get a Wheatie. There was a lot of activity going on so we didn't stay long. There was some Road Construction though so we went and tried that. Chris in a matter of a few minutes had his first keeper.....an Indian Head Penny. We worked this for awhile and we had little to show for it. Chris found 2 Good For Tokens from the same Merchant but different denominations, a 10

Very nice haul. And a quarter hat trick to boot. Congrats.

Nice hunting weekend James..........congratulations on the
silvers, IHs and Halves. It's great to have good company and
some good finds to go with it. Tornados are not nice.....they
seem to make a mess of everything they touch....wonder what
happened to the turkeys? Gold Nuggets:wiggle:
