last weeks finds in a local park.

Just below you said:

actually the park is hunted hard ..the only reason i dug the sounds was because the walkers overloaded my detector.

Now you say that it hasn't been hunted since the 20's...just curious what sort of hunting was done back in the 20's?....this story is getting a bit on the rich side!

The park is Glen Miller ...hunted very hard.........the golf side just closed ,it was started in the 20s..i didnt want to tell my area ........so thats why i said it was hunted hard ( Glen Miller).which the golf side is still glen miller...

I dont normally say anything about peoples finds in the forum, but.... didnt you say somewhere you had found 70 halves this year? Halves just isnt something people carried around in their pocket very often. I find a rare one on occassion but man those parks you are hunting must take some reasearch to find. Ive hunted about every state and have yet to hit a park that produced that amount of halves. I guess the gods arent shinning on me. Ive sweap over halves under the surface and never got an overload... well unless i set my detector down on it. Sorry im a sceptic. Ive found hunting here in Indy and the surrounding parks a challenge... shoot even the clad is being gobbled up. I cant doubt you on the rings... if you are willing to dig trash you will get rings and nickels. Most arent willing to do that so im sure there are lots out there waiting to be found.

:help:Guess I'm just not understanding the whole overload thing on a walker! Last yr I found a US belt buckle that was only about 5 inches down if that and it rang in high but never got overload and I can never remember getting a overload on a single coin.

That's a lot of halves..... 70? That is pretty unbelievable.... however I was told a story by an oldtimer years ago about a local golf course that he hunted back in the 70's. He was the only one to hunt it since it was a private course and he had exclusive permission. In a span of 2 years he found over 1,000 silver coins with 8 silver dollars and around 150 silver halves. It is possible to stumble onto a forgotten place like that. I've hunted places that saw no action for over 20 years with amazing results, but not near the number of halves. The best site I can remember was a small park that gave up 16-18 silver halves to me and one other hunter in a span of a few months.
