Late 1800's site-unknown items found

Hey Guys,
Can you help ID these things? I found 2 of them in a location where I have found many deep coins from the 1860's to 1907(nothing newer) The items look like a cigarrette size tube container of some kind. One is a little bigger and it looks like the "female" side of the tube sleeve. The other one is a little smaller but it has both the male and female sleeves together to form a capsulized container of sorts. There are very fine lines down the length of both. The smaller one has fairly ornate engraving on the side. At first glance they look like a small piece of 3/8" copper pipe. They seem to be made of copper with perhaps a plated surface of brass? The plating is fragile.WHAT the heck are they??????? I have some thoughts. Any ideas?
Also apparently my camera's photos are too large for this site. cant figure out how to shrink the amount of data in them,so my cell phone photo will have to do for now. Thanks!
