Well, it's been real busy on this end this last week and I have been working a little at a time on the Pics for the post during the time I had free. So let's get to it so we can give you all something to look at other than E-TRAC Postings. Don't get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with a New Machine coming out and everyone wanting to know more about it, but it sure has been crazy
this last week on the Forum with all the postings about it. Heck! I want to know more about it and have yet to have any time to read anything here. Hopefully during this week though. Now onto the Weekend's Finds.
Well, I jumped around a bit this weekend from a School, to Parks, to Ball Diamonds, to Fairgrounds, and even a Country Church I ran across out on a paved back road on the way back on Sunday. So due to the amount of locations, I'll try and make this as short and sweet as possible.
I stopped at an Older School Saturday and thought I would try this out for awhile since it should have some Older Coins somewhere due to how big the yard is on it. I didn't find anything old but did pick up about $4-$5 in Quarters along with a bunch of Nickels, Pennies, and a few Dimes. I even found a neat Token but not old so it was worth the effort.
Then I headed to a Fairgrounds that has produced lots of Old Coins throughout the years for me but it is starting to dwindle for them Keepers that we all like finding. There is still Keepers there but it takes a lot of patience and you must dig all New Clad Coinage as well due to some of the Older Coins being just as shallow. I tried the Pro Coil for quite awhile here and it performed well but it just wasn't doing the job when I tried it in Trashy Area's, so it was JOEY COIL TIME! The Pro Coil did find me an Indian Head, a Token, and a few Wheats so it did it's job in the Cleaner Area's. It wasn't but a few swings with the Joey and it showed me that it wasn't going to disappoint me. I found a Wheatie right away and then started working this spot slow and easy. By the time I left, I found 2 Rosie's, an Older Jefferson Nickel, and about 12 Wheats in a very short time which was about an Hour with the Joey and a few hours with the Pro Coil. There just was way too much Trash and Iron for the Pro Coil to separate thru. The Pro Coil is now the #1 Coil I use but for High Trash, the Joey is the Coil of choice. That was the finds for Saturday which was bleak and I really looked forward to Sunday to improve the finds ratio.
Sunday, I decided to go down to a Ball Diamond area that Tim, Dan, and I had stopped at before last year. I got there and started finding Keepers right away. I hunted it for about 3 hours and found 1 Merc, 1 Rosie, 2 Indian Heads, a Buffalo Nickel, and a few Wheats. I decided to try another Fairgrounds shortly after Noon so I left this spot for another day to come back to. It's loaded with Keepers but I think I will hunt it off and on so it lasts a little longer so I have a good spot to go back to.
On the way to the Fairgrounds, I stumbled across a Country Church about a mile off the road I was traveling on and decided to check it out. It look really old and it had a decent sized Parking Area outside the Fence. I started swinging and nothing much. I was about to give up until I got a 4 on Digital, which for some reason is the reading for a Nickel now using the Pro Coil. I dug it and out pops a Buffalo Nickel. Little did I know that after the use of Nic-A-Date on it, that it would turn out to be a 1914-d which is worth $80 in G-4. I then decided to use a Pattern and soon found a Silver Ring. I then got the Classic 26 Reading on Digital at about 2" and thought Zinc but thought I better dig it to make sure. It turned out to be an Indian Head. I kept working it and found a Small Ring, another Indian Head, a Wheatie, a Barber Dime that sadly, I had to hit with the Digger, a Merc and a Rosie. Funny thing about the Barber was that it was found in Dirt and the Merc and Rosie were in Gravel, so why couldn't I have hit one of them instead of the Barber? The Barber had to be at a weird angle for the pinpoint to get off but what can you do when you want to keep the Plugs to a Size of about 4" instead of 6" so they don't stick out like a sore thumb. I think there maybe more stuff there so maybe sometime I will have to go back and try the Church Yard a bit more than I did. Off to the Fairgrounds I went.
I got to the Fairgrounds that has produced lots of Silver from mainly 3 locations in the past and away I went detecting. I hunted until almost dark and still was popping out Keepers in the areas I have pounded, and re-pounded with the Joey Coil. I was using the Joey Coil once again and was doing such a Slow Crawl that I think most hunters would go Nuts trying to hunt like this. It payed off with some good finds though. I found a Neat Boot that is a Magnet and it Lights Up when you turn the back of it. This was lost from the last Fair I take it. I also found 2 Merc's, 1 being such a Scratchy and Iffy Signal and so Broken Up that most of you would have passed up as a False from Iron but I knew it was more than that because of all the Coins I have pulled from this area in the Nail Infested Spot. There were 2 Nails and a Rusty Staple above the Merc. I also found about 10 Wheats in this area, which is only about 30'x60' and I maybe did only 1/2 of it during this time. So the finds were starting to look up a bit more and now just for Monday to come around and see what else I could uncover.
I decided to do more Boulevard Hunting in Fargo so I got there around 9:00am and started working an area that they had torn another section of Street out of. I worked this for about 2 hours, doing both sides of the Boulevards and found 1 Indian Head, 29 Wheats, a Car Wash Token, an Older Jefferson Nickel, 2 Sterling Religious Items, and some other Misc. stuff. No Silver Coins which I thought was weird since there is No Way a person can hunt a spot and get every Silver Coin since Pennies sometime sound like Dimes and sometimes Dimes sound like Pennies and register on Smartfind as that also. So now for the Totals.
I found 9 Silver this weekend. They included 1 Barber Dime dated 1909-o, 4 Merc's dated 1917-s,1941,1943-d,1945-d, and 4 Rosie's dated 1946-d,1950,1953-d, and 1962-d. For Tokens, I found 3 and they included a Good For 5c In Trade Token that reads 31554 on the back, which is a Maverick Token that someone had melted Lead to the Center of it to fill in the hole, a Car Wash Token that reads No Cash Value on the back, and a Wiser's Token that reads the same front and back, Wiser's Quality Since 1857 Qualite Depuis 1857 and is dated 1980. I found 3 Foreign Coins also and they are 1 Canadian Penny dated 1959, a 50 Centimes that reads Etat Francais on the front and on the back reads Travail Famille Patrie 50 Centimes and is dated 1942, and another Foreign Coin that reads 1 Grosz on the front and on the back reads Rzeczpospolita Polska and was dated 1943 I think. The rest of the finds will be in Part:2 and Part:3. Enjoy! Good Luck and HH.[attachment 103920 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 103921 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 103922 DirtyTokensampForeignCoins.jpg][attachment 103923 CleanedTokensampForeignCoinsFront.jpg][attachment 103925 CleanedTokensampForeignCoinsBack.jpg]
