I have been out of action due to the English weather! BUT I did get out with my T2 Special edition on Saturday 28th January. I visited a grass site that I have recently had permission for. A number of signals including a George 3rd 1/2d then a Toy bath !! but the best find found at 13 inches was an 11th century A.D. Shield Boss these were fixed in the centre of a warriors shield. I used boost setting otherwise Sens. 75 disc 18. .as you can see it was fitted to a sheet of iron within the shield. Size 6cm x 6cm copper alloy

Now that is an awesome find!!!! Simply incredible.....It's finds such as this that makes us realize once again just how young American is.....We find something 100 to 300 yrs old and think we have an old artifact, which it is for America, but it simply rattles the mind when our European counterparts find artifacts that are 500 to 1,000 yrs old...simply amazing.

WOW.......amazing find............. It's awesome seeing things recovered we here in the States can only dream of finding.

A very nice find,i would go back again and work that area methodically as sometimes that could be grave goods or the such like.I guess we do take our old finds for granted like last year i found a Celtic Gold State 55BC a Whaddon Chase variation.

Well done

I have now been told that it could be Anglo Scandinavian from horse harness. So take your choice !! still 11th century though

Sorry to labour the point but now a Museum who deals with this period confirms that it is front decoration from an 11th century shield boss !!

Did the museum say anything else about it ??? it may have fallen off in battle or still possible a grave good,it certainly is a very interesting find and still on my wish list.

Youngted, what are the size dimensions and type of metal? Its in pretty nice condition for being in the ground that long. Also, does the museum know what group of people this Boss originated from. Like I said before, its such a great find.

Yet another update SORRY to you all. Now they say a 14th century Horse Bridle boss ! so 3 hundred years younger ! as I have said its 6cm x 6cm copper alloy it may have had a gilt wash on it the rivets have..
T2 special edition set in boost found at 13 inches still a very good signal the T2 would have gone deeper
