Well, I saw the farmer spraying fertilizer in the adjacent field yesterday, so I suspect he did the field I'm hunting also.
He was pulling a rake attachment to break up the soil and a tank. So this is probably my last post on this thread.
I was out Friday on a mission focusing on a potential for a cache of coins. I was using the relic program, but yesterday I did some testing on a small container of copper coins and got much better results with a modified general program.
It actually got greater depth (by at least 2 inches) and ID'd at depth better than Relic, Deep HC, and Gold programs. But alas, I will probably have to wait until the fall harvest to try it.
Here's my finds from Friday and one from a couple days before.
The first 2 pics are for a lockable hasp that I get the feeling might be from a bubble gum vending machine. It seems too heavy for a travel trunk.
Last pic shows wheat pennies in pretty bad shape. The dates I can read are in the teens. The Canadian LC is 1917 (upper right).
The token on the left is part of an award medal. The center tag is for a Stetson hat and probably the mfg. tag from it.
That little round item at the top left is silver.
I went through a few scenarios of what might have been there in the past, and now I believe it could have been general store of some sort that burned down.
I've found dozens of cover-all buttons
Dozens of tin shirt buttons
Hundred or more pennies, 16 dimes, and 2 quarters.
Dozens of tin jar caps, dozens of ointment tubes, dozens of make-up or liniment tins.
5 pocket watch innards. Large clock gears and a couple internal frame parts.
dozens and dozens of flatware (mostly forks and spoons) of various quality and sizes.
4-5 keyed master-lock style bodies.
4 silver saltshaker caps
4 thimbles.
Lots of glass, ceramic, and crockery shards.
A few pounds of lead in various states from shaped to melted blobs. Other items that indicate were in a fire.
The list goes on with multiples of items that would not normally be found in one home or a picnic area. But it's just a guess based on finds.
The thing I haven't found is bullet brass to go with all the melted lead. I found one 38 casing, but it seemed more modern.
Mind you, I might have found much more but a lot of the targets were captured in the sod that was harvested for 20 years at the site.
