Naturally since I can't get out and detect just yet, I have been walking around my house pretending to detect so I can get used to the slightly heavier Explorer. I noticed right away that my arm was getting tired and stressed after just a few minutes. I was a bit concerned because I did'nt want this great machine to cause me pain before I could even get out and try it. Well, as it turns out, when I assembled it I had the shaft extended out too far. So I re-adjusted it so that the coil sweep area is just in front of my feet. I guess all it depends on the person but once I shortened the shaft it seemed to solve the problem.

Thanks for reading. Sorry if I'm babbling but I'm bored and still in a frozen wasteland..

im frozen here in vt also but did go out for awhile today say some grass under pine trees in local park after hiking thruogh but deep snow got to grass area yeah first good hit dug 4 inchs solid frost got a pop top oh boy ground very much still froze got another hit 1 inch down my first penny of the year walked around for awhile just listening to the se talk to me better then inside my house but did no more diggin to much work

Dave, you stumbled on to a great way to deal with the Explorers weight. Keep it short and close to your feet. You can't make wide sweeps, but you will be able to hunt longer. Keep the faith. Winter will come to an end. R.L.

And they suggest a 4-second sweep one way with the Explorer. I mean...I'm not a wuss by any stretch, but with my Ace 250 I was able to sweep as fast as I wanted. It is my understanding that with the Explorer..the slower, the better. So I have no problem keeping it closer to my feet. And I won't be wearing steel-toes this year either.....I learned that the hard way when I used my friends Ex II....dug a couple of empty holes that day

Thought I would throw this out there. How fast are most of you sweeping? My assumption would be "slow and slower"? And just how fast can you sweep before you are going too fast for the processer?

Glad you got it figured out Dave:thumbup:

PS: When the ground is frozen and you can't hunt...a little "boredom babbling" is acceptable:clapping:

One NEVER needs to apologize for that.

Dave- I had the same issue when upgrading from the BH Land Star to the Safari last yr. It took about 6 months for the right elbow pain to develop. Now, I keep the shaft shorter, try switch arms after 15 minutes or so, and most importantly use a heating pad nightly. Icy hot appears to be ineffective. Thanks for the daily spring countdown which goes well with daylight savings time.

You gotta go sloooow with the FBS machines, you'll get used to it and learn to like it too! And yes, thats correct around 4secs. each way when you swing.
Hang in there..the weather here in Mi. still sucks too!

My wrist kills me to use my Explorer SE over an hour. Got to looking and my hand in bending downward at the wrist. If any of you notice they took some of the angle of the hand grip out on the E-Trac. Looks like Minelab would listen too it users and start trying to lighten the load up on there detectors. Plus I use a 6" coil all most all the time now. Really like it. Plus it takes a bunch of weight off your arm.

Come on you spring chickens .... im 59 and hunt morning to dark. The key is to dig more targets to put that heavy sucker down lol. I dont really swing my machine.... i push it side to side .... kind of like painting very slowly. My coil spends a lot of time on the soil too.... gives most of ya another 1 or so depth you loose if you are going to fast. Mcdave i wouldnt recommend those steel toes... tho i wear boots with brass eyelets that give me a beep if i get to close.

teach yourself to swing with both arms also. for me it was a bit awkward at first but now its second nature and I have no preference. I usually switch from left to right or right to left every half hour or so, this helps alot.
