learning about metal detecting

I gained custody of a white's metal detector that i want to learn to use really well. I need a partner/mentor who has knowledge of metal detecting & more specifically how to use the white's.

[size=medium]from what little i know you need to sell that gold machine, unless you're into prospecting and get a MXT, also a whites machine. the reason is that your state is known for its red clay and all machines have a difficult time getting down thru it. the best machines use DD coils and still have a hard time of it. just to keep others off my back, let me say I've only heard of these things.
