Made a quick stop at a park on the way home from work last night. They have a large double net volleyball court. Thought I would get in some practice with target ID and depth. Wanted to see what the 550 could do. Found a couple of nickels right away. ID and depth were right on. Also found quite a few rusty 2 inch nails scattered around in the sand... the city should thank me for getting those out of there. ID was correct on the nails, also. So far I've been impressed with my new detector. Then it got strange... I started to find zinc pennies... 1 every sweep of the coil. After about 10 I started to look around to see if some yahoo was hiding behind a tree laughing at me! It looked like some one had just tossed a handful of pennies into the sand for the fun of it! After finding 25 zincs in a 5 foot area, at least they were in the sand and easy to remove, it was time to head for home. Again, target ID and depth were right on. Time to hit the library and research the area for some older spots. I feel the urge to see some silver!!! HH.... Bill
Side note to Bill(OR) - I read your field test on the 550 and all the other units you've tested and it help me make my decision on what to buy. Also read your review on the DD power coil and have one on the way. Isn't eBay great!! Sounded like something I would like to have when I get a chance to visit my sisters ranch next time. Bill

Sounds like you're having some fun, re-discovering the thrill of the find

Glad you're happy with the 550. It's a great little machine. You'll like the DD for the ground coverage but remember it shines in high mineralization. If the area you plan to hunt is low mineralization you would do just as well with the 12.5-incher.
