Learning the V3i yesterday

kickback

New member
I took my V3i to an Elementary school playground I've hunted alot before.I've hunted it at least a dozen times before with several different(non Whites) detectors and coil sizes.I found a huge pile of clad with the V3i.The strange thing is the spot had stopped giving up coin targets except for fresh drops with the other detectors. All the coins were under the bark mulch down in the dirt.Nothing was shallower than 5 inches. It was a mix of quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. It is real trashy.I could go slow and pick through the trash with the D2 coil.I need to go back with the small 5.3 and Shooter coil to clean up.I didn't get all the playground hunted, there is a large area still left to rehunt with the V3i.I'm sure there is jewelry in this spot.I was just too tired to dig foil signals. My nickel finds have gone way up since I got the V3i.I thought the DFX and MXT PRO were good on nickels but the V3i seems even better.
I'm still just learning this detector.I took a modified version of High Pro into my test garden this afternoon and it hit my 10 inch deep quarter and dime targets.I'm planning a 3 day trip to some old towns this weekend if it doesn't rain too hard.
The V3i was the best purchase of my metal detecting career. The Whites detectors(V3i,DFX and MXT PRO) have made detecting fun again for me.

Thanks for your post Bill and good luck this weekend.

Bill set 18- 20 VDI to a high tone. I've got mine set to 255. I really makes an iffy nickel signal jump out.

Try using the analyze feature/polar plot. I really have good luck with it "weeding" out the trash from the good stuff. It does take some practice and experimentation but I think its almost the best thing about the v3i.

Good luck!
