Leaving you metal detector in a hot trunk

Can leaving your metal detector in a hot trunk affect your metal detector or your batteries. I went with a friend to go out metal detecting but when we got there it was too hot to metal detect, so we found something cooler to do and the detectors stayed in the trunk, out of sight of anyone that might have sticky fingers

Not sure but heat and batteries are not a good mix I would think.....But them again it is 2016.

No problems with mine...it's always handy in case of a sidewalk tearout, house demo, etc. Been using Deus for 2 and a half years and never any problems with batteries and heat/cold. The LCD screen will fade under 20 degrees F, but that's easily adjustable. Only once have I had a battery problem - detector died about 6 hours into a hunt in 2014, and never found out why. I was running TX=3 in a 12khz program THAT day, and I guess it got hungry since at the time I ran it in TX=2 and always got over 20hours on a charge in that particular program.

4khz programs will eat more battery - you may get 12-15 hours on a full charge. This is the third Deus coil I've owned - they've all been fantastic and dependable in all weather conditions!

Just don't get the control box wet....that could be a problem

I will not do that I ,on a garrett video it warned not to do that I would rather be safe than sorry imo

It would most likely depend on the heat (Maybe?), like here in AZ we are 120 and who knows how high it is in the cars..........

I have always kept my detectors in the trunk for years and have never had any problems. The trunk doesn't get as hot as the inside of the car. If it gets really cold in the winter and I'm sure I'm not going to be able to hunt for a while sometimes I take it out. I do think that the cold can affect spare battery packs but it doesn't seem to bother the ones in the detector.

From what I've been told ...

Enough heat will fry any type of electronics - guess it depends on how hot it gets where you live.

Cold is easier on the machines than extreme heat but if you bring your machine into a warm house or put it close to the heater in your car after being out in cold weather ...
condensation can form and damage your processor.

Maybe the internal components can handle the heat.

But we all do know,,,with temp changes comes contraction and expansion,,,how do circuit boards handle or hold up here??

I won't leave mine in a hot car.

I guess if under warranty,,it might be covered.

The only way to tell is somebody bite the bullet and leave a Deus in a trunk for a year in Tucson, might have to move but you would be doing a big service to the rest of us.........

Yes leaving your detector in a roasting hot trunk can cause any detector to malfunction, especially if it's been in there for a long time. I have seen it happen.

what detector did you have malfunction. my t-2 hasn't been out of the trunk except when I'm using it and I've never had any problems.

In most cases high temperature inside a car will not cause a detector to malfunction straight away , in the long term though i would not make a habit of leaving a detector in really hot car interiors.
The capacitors will suffer.
