With the prospects for some much needed rain coming in for the weekend, I decided to do a shortened hunt this morning and get home and do my yard work.
Went back to the area where I found the sterling ring a couple days ago and worked the area for about an hour and a half. Meager pickings, just a few pieces of clad and cents. Moved on up to the front of the spot and began working my way back to my vehicle. Picked off a few more pieces of clad and Memorials and as I got near my vehicle, decided to call it a wrap.
Where I had parked, and had numerous times before over the years when usually entering the woods from this side, are several big old oak trees and decided to make a quick swing around two of them. Although I seldom hunt right there, I do fire up my detector as a trail into the woods starts within just a few yards, I do feel certain I have made some token passes around the trees and turf just before I cross a service to get on the trail. Anyway, swinging over some above ground roots I got a nice bang with a reading of 89/90. No way could there be a silver quarter right there, I am thinking. And, I was right. It was a marked 925 silver band about 3" deep.
The 3rd picture is of the tree and the two roots the ring came from with my vehicle just a few feet away. I guess one could say the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the road.HH jim tn
