Let me pose one more question to pick up where we left off yesterday.

Charles, Yes, the vast majority of time I use the 8 inch coil. For my thick woods hunting in brush and greenbriar, it is perfect. Also the bit less weight allows me with my bad back to use the X-1 Probe again, but the combination of both stock coil and X-1 is too much on my spinal problems.

I have not seen the SE in person yet, but am a bit concerned the new "lighter" coil might not be as sturdy as the original Explorer coil.
I have always considered, as much as I hate the weight of the coil, that it is built like a tank and perfect for brush beating. One reason I liked the Minelab over the White's, especially the DFX, was the fact that the DFX coil looks like it would bounce off the brush that the Explorer coil goes right through.

There are times that heavier is better. :)
I have never had a detector last so long without major problems and I have used the XS more than the average hunter over the past 6 years................ :)

I don't think the new coil will be any problem at all in terms of being rugged. First its only like 2 paltry ounces lighter and second unlike the original coil this one is solid epoxy like the ML 8 inch e.g. built like a brick. :D

My opion is that every time you hunt if you change your machine different at a site that you hunt regular you will find new stuff.I hunt wide open, and hunt deep on and changed to fast on and found 6 more coins.Try changing sens to go low to high and see what works for that day.Weather has a lot to do with it.
