Can a guy run FAST ON to separate targets better AND HIGH TRASH DENSITY at the same time or do they cancel each other out? Are they two different types of results or redundant?

Hmmm... I'm not sure if they would 'cancel' each other out. If you are hunting primarily for recent or surface drops in a trashy site, then I'd go with FAST ON. But if you're hunting for older, deeper targets, then I'd go with fast OFF and move slowly. Moving slowly can overcome any shortcomings of a particular setting, real or perceived. I haven't really experimented with the trash density settings since I move so slowly anyway and I tend to run with it in the trash density = LOW setting. Good luck out there. - Jim

I re-read the owners manual section regarding these settings this morning -

IF I understand what is being said;

RECOVERY: FAST - ON bypasses the normal signal filtering so that the detector audibly and visually responds more quickly to targets, Especially helpful when two targets are located closely together. It reduces target blending. Byproduct is a less stable Target ID reading.

TRASH DENSITY deals with the Signal intensity of each of the detected signals and whether or not a weaker ACCEPTED target adjacent to a stronger DISCRIMINATED target gives a visual Target ID or not. (audio not effected) With Trashdensity set to Low - the stronger signal prevails on the Target ID. With it set to HIGH - The accepted signal prevails. (I would assume if both targets are accepted, the stronger of the two signals would prevail)

The way the manual reads, I am not under the impression that these conflict with each other.

I run it that way all the time and don't seem to have a problem. If I shouldn', I hope someone will clear that up.
