Oh yeah!!! Bring me some more Old Charter for this one. I'm celebratin' tonight. OK yes its only a penny but when I dug this one out and realized it wasn't your regular Lincoln penny, I was pretty happy. We thought it was a wheatie at first but then rubbed off the dirt and saw the 1907. Now - how do I properly clean this one off? I don't want to damage it. I know its only worth a buck or so in mint condition, but I want this to be my lucky penny. How should I restore it without damaging it?

Distilled water just until the dirt and grime comes of...
For clad and such I use Peoxide and Baking soda just until I can identify the date properly....
For valuable coins I just leave as is except for a tap water rinse as dirt and sand are rather annoying!

A penny or a dollar, it doesn't matter ! If the find makes you feel good then that is great. I wish I would find something old in a coin. I'm going to the ocean this Sunday, maybe it will be my lucky day.... GOOD LUCK.

The whole fun of coin hunting is holding a piece of history in your hands its amazing when you find a coin like that. Good job also where ever you found that search it thorough and slow (or maybe from a different direction). I'v found a 1958 dime at a farm house one day hunting normally with a quick swing, and 10 feet away the next day searching every square inch of the place (the same ground iv already been over) i came up with a 1898 barber head dime , 1907 Indian head penny , 1943 walking liberty half and a 1918 mercury head dime. Just take your time and it will pay off.

might wanna make sure there isnt an "S" on the reverse side of that indian head. be worth a bit more than a buck if that mint mark is there.

a coin dealer I was showing some finds to recommended soaking in extra virgin olive oil and checking frequently. took off most of the green patina off some my attempts
