lets share tips on............................................

Hello again, I was wondering if we could start a discussion of various tips for treasure hunting. This could include: detector tips, digging techniques (best way to remove, probe for coins with little damage to grass or coin), beach hunting tips, best way to get permission at sites, best stories and finds, old treasure stories............etc........This could be good. I'm going to start a list of things to add as I think and learn them. Thanks!!!

Hey Diggindirt, I'll take that suggestion a step further. If anyone has a way to post their own mpegs or video clips on any tips or techniques they know of, that would be pretty informative and cool too. Heck, with the new Apple Ipods you can even post your own shows and post video too with it for others to download. I just read an article about how this area is growing with the new Ipods out there. People could just go to that person's website and download the info. and listen to and even watch video clips (if any were posted). But I like your idea of sharing stories and tips. HH. Randy

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA, THE TRIED AND TRUE VETERANS OF THIS HOBBY COULD BE VERY HELPFUL TO THE NEWER PEOPLE THAT ARE JUST LEARNING THE QUATTRO AND I'M SURE THAT THERE ARE MANY QUESTIONS TO BE HEARD.
BEING NEW TO THE MINELAB FBS TECHNOLOGY, I KNOW THAT I MYSELF COULD USE HELP IN SOME AREAS.

Hello all, I saw a "coin popper and probe" used to remove coins without making a hole or plug from grass lawns. I was wondering if anyone has used this tool and if they had success with it. If you have used this combo could you share any tips on its use. Thanks and good treasure hunting to all!!!

Diggindirt I have tried a coin popper and still have one. In some situations it will work fine if the coin is shallow and the grass roots are not too bad but my experience this is not usually the case. I still use my brass probe sometimes. You can push it down to the target and tap on it and kind of get an idea if it is solid or not. Hope this helps and remember this is just my opinion.

This sounds great. I would love to see some finds and a story to go with it even if they were not with the quattro. I have several finds I would like to share that I have made over the years.

Hi All,
Would it be possibble to post a photo of the coin popper? Not sure what it looks like, and I might be able to improvise one, if I can't get one here.
Cheers Angela

Wouldn't the brass probe scratch the coin if it hit it? I always wondered about that. I keep hearing about these probes but wonder if they'd scratch the coin or not and how they would work. How would you know if you touched the coin or not? Just curious.

The probe has a rounded end. After pinpointing you push the probe down slowly until you hit a target. This is usually used only for shallow targets and in areas such as well maintained park grass where you do not wish to use a digger. The probe is used in tandem with a screwdriver...so once you locate the target, you use a screwdriver to pry it up...I've read but not actually done this :-(

Instead of a probe, I use an electronic pinpointer called a Tinytec. It has a hardened end that you can push down into the soil similar to the coin probe. Once it beeps you know its relative depth and can dig around it so as not to scratch the coin.
