I was told on another forum that if you want to hunt schools and parks and have the best chance at not digging crown caps and pull tabs then the V3 is the machine. The detector I use now and it is a relic hunter, does a great job at finding coins when relic hunting but makes me dig a lot of trash at parks and schools. SO what makes the V3 do a better job in trash. I know there is a lot of money in the ground in one year with a DFX I found two grand in coins. But where I live now in the gold country the DFX did a poor job in my ground...The V3 seems like there is so much programing with that machine that it may be too much for me now that I am spoiled on a turn on and go machine...Any input would be cool..

If you have used the DFX for a year and know it pretty well then the V3i will not be over your head.I think it is more user friendly than the DFX (I have used the DFX for 3 years).The V3i is just more advanced in technology.Good Luck and Happy hunting,Ken

You will dig 95-99% coins once you know the vdi values of coins and what frequency they hit on, then no more bottle caps or pulltabs. It is a turn on and go machine, without a doubt. If however you want to squeak more depth out of the detector you have the option of tuning to your ground and conditions. It can operate as simply or as complex as you could want.

Crimp caps are a no brainer. If it reads 83,and in pinpoint and the 2.5 has the longest bar it's a quarter. If the 22.5 is the longest bar it's a crimp cap.

Now if you are only hunting common coins you can learn the VDI for tabs, BUT one tab reads like a nickel at 19 and one tab at 49 can be a deep Indian for me. Also if you are interested in gold jewelery you can't ignore the tab numbers.

In a simple answer the V3i is great in trash because it is so adjustable.

Quarters, dimes, and silver of dime or larger size fall into the 2.5 frequency when analyzed. Dimes Vdi on my detector in the 76-80 range depending on orientation, Quarters are almost always 81-85. Nickels are strongest in the 22.5 frequency and vdi in the 19-21 range, some pull tabs also fall into this area. Pennies I do not bother with unless is is in my own yard. Zinc pennies like the 7.5 frequency and vdi at 45-65 depending on the halo effect or the level of corrosion. Copper pennies like 65-75 and hit in the 2.5.



To find gold however you need to dig all positive vdi's as it comes in all different sizes and purity.

Once even the basics are learned, you'll be laughing at yourself for having any apprehension at all. You've learned the DFX......this does have more stuff but.... the way it is set up? (Stuff clicks in huge chunks and you can thank knowing the DFX already for that.) The only thing that would keep you from enjoying this machine is if you are the kind of person that questions what they have already learned....continuously. Doing this at first is normal, but to not really enjoy the "build up" of learning gradually? Eventually you can sit down, ask yourself "What am I in the mood to prioritize in finding today?"...."What am I up against?" Make those adjustments, tweak a little to fine tune, and be in your own zone visually, audio wise, and in a consistent,predictable..... groove.....no matter what you are looking for? Crown caps...this box is way beyond that. (Your already a third the way there!) I'm there....but continually finding ways to make things easier on myself...thanks to people around here and getting more detecting time in these days!)

One thing that I do a little differently (than lots of folks around here) is I don't dig everything that is a possibility...just what is giving info that has a higher probability and a gut feeling for a situation. I'd rather cover more ground and get stuff that is in the higher probability VDI's but do do "chain specific" types of hunting a lot too. I still dig tons of aluminum just not in the high single digits, low low teens and mid to high thirties. I know I'm missing stuff but that is fine with me as I know you can't get it all anyways and it's not that I'm lazy, it's just that my time is so dang precious these days.
