Has anyone experienced wearing of the lettering on their unit due to sand / dirt on there fingers. I have not had any ware yet butt was wondering if I should be using my all weather cover all the time to protect the lettering.

Yes. For the reason you mentioned and several others. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks Randy: up late Huh!
I wonder if putting a small piece of scotch tape at least over my Pinpoint and Menu/select would be a way to go and change it now and then.

I use my cover all the time and the buttons still get dirty. I think it s a good idea to use it, Beale.

Hi,
I always use the weather cover, but also clean it out regularly as you say sand and grit still gets in.
I did read somewhere , where someone stuck on small circular tabs about 10mm dia. used on cupboard doors etc to dampen the sound when you close them, but did'nt see the need yet to do that.

i put some clear packaging tape over my face plate of my fisher id excel years ago and still have the same piece on it and it still looks like a new piece of tape. I could remove it and the face and buttons would look brand new. the only thing is the adhesive would stay on the face plate but that's not hard to get off and clean. So any protection for your investment is a good idea. I have an e-trac and before i ever touched a button on it i put the cover on it to protect it. One thing i have always done is to just push the buttons enough for it to activate and the i stop applying any more force onto them. there ain't a point in pushing to hard and stressing the pad inside. I pushed to hard on the pinpoint button on my cz6a years ago and actual messed the button up and had to get fisher to send me a new one. I installed it myself and within a few months i broke it again. After that i learned to be easy and take steps to protect my detectors from myself and ware.

I guess I should get a cover but, I just cover the entire head with plastic wrap. When I get home I take it off, clean the head and then recover it just before I leave the house on my next trip.

I still use the trust sandwich bags, work well and easy to replace.

I suppose some sort of tape would help protect the lettering. But, as I mentioned, I use the environmental cover for many reasons. As someone who hunts in some dusty fields, the cover not only protects the membrane of the touch pads. It keeps dust from entering the detector housing via the speaker grill. Dust and electronics don't mix well. The Minelab cover is a bit of a pain to take off and on, when changing batteries. But having to do that every 40 hours or so is not a big deal. Well worth the trade off to minimize potential damage to the electronics. JMHO HH Randy
