Well,now there's a Deus section I thought I'd introduce myself,Mike,born in Liverpool,England,now living in France,got myself a Deus last August,no regrets,superb machine,switch on and go,but a loooooooooong learning curve,very simple machine also extremely complex!
Anyhow here's a three coin find from beside a local stream, uncleaned as they came out of the soil, about 9inches down.
Louis XIV,4 sols aux 2L's (the two crossed L's on the back as opposed to 2 sols "traitants") 1692,1693 and 1695,note the letters directly beneath the crossed L's-two with K's -minted in Bordeaux, and one (top left) with an M-minted in Toulouse.
I don't remember what programme I was in,probably Basic 1,they came in @ 70,i'd like to say it's an everyday find but it's not, however I'll put up a few more finds if anyone's interested.

(the two crossed L's on the back as opposed to 2 sols "traitants")

Ooooooops!-that should read (the two crossed L's on the back as opposed to 4 sols "traitants")

Seeing fnids from Europe always reminds us how "young" this country really is . . . . I hunted in Germany and the Czech Republic last summer and was excited when I found coins from the 1700's . . . but the guys I was huntnig with saw tham as we see Wheat cents here - nothing to get excited about!

The 3-coin spill you found is really cool . . . . any more finds from the area or just some random spill along a stream?

By all means, share some of your other finds with us . . . .

I found this little beauty the other day,a silver 20cent(of a French franc)

The story goes-----------------Urbain a 78year old neighbour has given me permission to detect his land, whenever I'm in one of his fields he invites me to take an aperitif with him when i'm finished(nightfall)
Over a pastis or four he recounts times past, this time he recalls how he accompanied his grandmother once a year to make walnut oil from fresh walnuts at the nearest mill,a walk of about ten kilometres, this would be around the 1940's and the second world war.
They took their bags of walnuts, headed downhill from the village towards a stream in the valley about 1km away, crossed the bridge, then took a path through the forest to a Chateau, where they remounted to their original elevation(about 2000 feet)to a road opposite the village, then downward another 6/7km to the mill!

What he'd just given me was a path that's been in use for hundreds if not thousands of years, and the path through the forest to the Chateau was certainly the best bet for a coin or two,the rest is now modern roads.
The next day I drove over to the Chateau, parked the car next to it and took the first part of the path,it has been bulldozed out to allow access to farm vehicles and 4x4's,not happy!
I detected it anyway over about 1300 metres until it ended in a field-zilch! then I noticed a tiny little path on the left going upwards, too steep and narrow for anything other than animals/humans BINGO!
The first 50 metres and I got a real ping, silver!!! what a beauty
Another couple of minutes, next to moss covered rocks, another good signal-a 10centimes from 1901,then the path goes onto the level and is once again bulldozed,so,over 2000 metres only 200 metres of the original path remains resulting in two coins.

Well here's another one, though there doesn't seem much interest in what are,for me at least, unusual and quite rare coins, this one in particular, It's an eighth of an Ecu from 1587,silver obviously (as are all the others),cleaned only with warm water and a soft brush,I've only ever found reference to the same coin once since I found it,so,to the best of my knowledge there are two known examples in France,I could give more details, but most of the information is in the photos for anybody caring enough to do the research.

Here's a copper coin from the French Revolution,un decime an 8,or,one decime from the year 8 (correct me if i'm wrong,Revolution 1789 + 8 years = 1797)
This is more or less as it came out of the ground,on the front is the head of Marianne and "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAIS",on the back, surrounded by laurel leaves is marked "UN DECIME" and I can just make out "AN 8",what makes this coin a bit special is the milled edges,I don't know if any other French coins were minted like this.
This is only the second one decime that I've found and in remarkably good condition for a 215 year old coin,I doubt that I'll clean it any more, there's a lovely patina that I wouldn't want to destroy.

Great finds, it must be great living in a country with so much history.

Yes,you never know what you'll find, here's a copper coinspill i found a while back,Still a bit grotty after a prolonged soak in the olive oil jar-but recognisable-fourteen (14) Napoleon III 5 centimes and two Victor Emmanuel (http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&cp=9& ... 20&bih=955) of Italy 5 centesimi, both in circulation and both legal tender in France at the time.
Gave a stonking signal on the Deus,so much so that I ignored it twice, thinking it was a huge piece of copper, and only dug it on the third pass (I was looking for medievil coins)Somebody had an expensive loss around 1870.

Now those are great finds in my book...
Congrats and keep it up.
I only hope when I get my Deus it finds me some awesome finds too.

A short hunt on my neighbours field yesterday afternoon produced a few interesting finds

Top left:silver 50 centimes Napoleon III (nearly didn't dig it,thought it was a little bit of iron) 1865
Top middle:a 'Bon' for 50 centimes Aluminium alliage 1926
Top right:20 centimes of a Franc, again some sort of Alumimium mixture 1984

Bottom left:in all probability a Liard de France or a Double Tournois copper 16th/17th century
Bottom middle:5 centimes Napoleon III,copper,1855
Bottom right:a religious medal from the early 1900's probably, the local population is mostly catholic, aluminium

hello beautiful discovery parenthesis parts of five cents napoleon III are not copper, but bronze.

 You're absolutely correct, they're bronze, but as they come out of the ground a dark green,I always think of them as being copper!:crazy:
