to-morrow,i'm heading out to the gold fields with a vaquero and a silver sabre as a back up.if it doesn't work out ,i was thinking of a lobo super traq, but, after reading all of the old posts,i'm not sure i want to use a tesoro machine to hunt for gold.fishers gold bug maybe.don't like minelabs, got one.never used a whites. what's left?i like tesoro's,but i'm not hunting for coins for the rest of my life,i've just about cleaned out all of the parks around here and i need more of a challenge.blowfly,hh

Hi Blowfly,
I dont know if you're doing the right thing by aksing people to recommend machines other than Tesoros, on the Tesoro forum. If we leave out minelabs, then Whites Goldmaster series (second hand) or Garrett Scorpion (yeh, the one used in the Aussie movie "The Nugget") could also be an option. Hovever, the Scorpion runs on a similar frequency to the Lobo ST, so there may be little or no advantage there. The Garret Infinium LS is another option, but it takes some serious learning to use it properly, from what I've read. The Tesoro Tejon is another option...although it is primarily a relic machine, shove on a DD coil and it could be better than your Vacq. Jack Lang sells cheap gold machines (VLF), and I have read one or two articles which have sung their praises...Jack is at Rockhampton. Hope some of this helps.

good luck on the Goldfields Blowfly ..hehe ya cleaned out alll the local parks ..thats the way

g'day one and all,the vaquero maybe an all round detector in the advertisement markets, but,if the gold is more than six inch's down, forget it and go back to coin shooting.i just spent three days searching a gold field, where others using their minelabs were finding keepables.one person called me over with my vaquero and asked what i heard with it.i heard nothing.he dug it up from approxiatly eight inch's,about three grams.found plenty of trash, old world and new world. a relic hunters dream.i had mine set on something more golden.didn't have to be big, just gold.now i'll have to save up and buy a real gold detector. blowfly.

Hi Blowfly,
VLF detectors cant compare with the PI machines designed and engineered for the specific task of finding gold.

very true sapper, but, when you can't afford a pi detector,do you stop and give up the ghost or think outside the square.people were finding gold without the pi,with a vlf.the place i just left, people were just about falling over each other with their minelabs.because they said where i should try,i found nothing, protecting their spots.they weren't about to give me the keys to the safe, were they?i'll go back and do it my way and then i'll have no one to blame but myself if i don't find anything.see ya ,blowfly

VLF is the wrong tech for the gold fields. digging hot rocks will have you reconcider the sport. the DD coils help, but not as much as you think. you will soon realise. still, ilove my tejon.
