Local park hunt. Mobbed by Mosquitos.. :surprised:

Coinstar

New member
Wow. Went to park to coin hunt. I had 50 or more mosquitos flying around me. I want to go hunt some areas near me that has ponds sitting near the field. I was wondering what some of you do for mosquitoes. I used "Off" it worked to a point but they were landing all over my clothes and buzzing about my head. Made it tuff to concentrate on the hunt. I think I only got about 3 bites..thanks to the Off.. but is there anything that will repel them away?

There are many types of mosquitos, the big northern ones come in like a jet fighter and take at least a pint, the little southern ones are very polite, and if you listen closely, they will say "Excuse me sir, do you mind if I have a drop of your hemoglobin"? Mosquitos are attracted to the CO2 you emit when you breath, so if you stop breathing altogether, they wont be able to follow you around.
Mosquitos dont like the sunshine, so stay out of the shade. When walking down a trail, mosquitos attack the second person harder. Deer flies eat mosquitos, so try to find a park thats full of them!
Hope this helps, HH!

I use a headnet and 100% deet from your local Wal-Mart store---just be careful with the deet---read the label about the cautions, no big problems just common sense stuff. If they are REALLY bad then get a jacket made of the same thing as the headnet. One hint, if you do the jacket business. The material can rip somewhat easily so wear a shirt over the top of the jacket, no snagging that way. If they can't bite through on the outside they can't bite through it while a shirt is over the top of it------try it---it works real good. I do this while in Alaska

You have to be someplace furthur south...the mosquitos are so thick up north that when its a little windy, they hover about a foot off the ground, you can actually walk across a lake on their backs!

Those mosquito hats are a must, and if you go camping without one, they fly up your nose at night, and try to suffocate you...I had a guy offer me 100 bucks for mine in Canada fishing once...and I turned him down.

Yep these northern skeeters are a pain,I use anything with deet in it,though I dont like the spray on,I use the lotion, that way you apply it only where needed.Head nets do work as a last resort.I also wear loose clothing.Caballas and bass pro shops sell clothing with bug repellant impregnated in the material, they do work but are costly.Deer flies dont bother me as I always wear a hat,but if you stop hearing them buzzing over your head start swinging, cause odds are they have landed!!!! The black flies(no see ums)are the ones that do the most damage to me,i have had blood run down my face, cause you dont feel em bite!!! Also if I am in an area with lots of skeeters,I will just leave and go back when there is enough wind to keep them off you.Last year the only prob I had while hunting old homesites was poison ivy,and thats another story!! JMHO.......hh rick in mi.

I am sure that them Northern mosquitoes are rough sure nuff, but.............. 'dem southern skeeters 'round the Tunica cutoff in Mississippi are big and just plain mean! Fishin around the willer trees during high water in May is one of the main reasons I moved from there!

I got one of those small fans that uses refills made by Off and it works great. No interference to my machines and when you get done just cut the little fan off. Seems like the refills last around 12 hours.

Just got a bunch of tips in an email and one was how to keep mosquito's from bothering you. Haven't tried it but I thought I would pass it on.

It said, just put a dryer sheet in your pocket and the mosquito's will leave you alone. Or use up all your dryer sheets and get you in trouble with the lady of the house:lol:

Good luck,

Ron in WV
