Locating Gold

digntyme

New member
With only 4 yrs. M/T'ing under my belt and using a Minelab Explorer ll just bought recently, are there anyways to know when to dig low tones when in Digital mode for gold jewerly. Thanks for any advice.

Honestly,
Not really,I have experimented with gold rings, scanning them to see where they register,
the composition of the rings are all a little different.
and also size of the rings makes a difference, they all register different places.
Sorry to be the bearer of Bad news,But at least i'm being honest.
Silver,Now theres a different story! LOL

Minelabs Explorer's are known to find silver extremely well, and gold not so well. According to all the finds I have seen so far and all the stories.
Gold falls in the low tones area, pull tabs, small foil, also can slaw. I think most Minelab users may disc. all that out so they arent finding all the trash and find more silver because silver coins are more abundent than the gold and have higher tones?

I could be wrong. I am just going by what most Minelab users are showing(Silver Coins) and no Nickels, and not very much trash.
I may be buying a ML when I get my taxes back.

If I had any gold rings I would definitely program any and all gold rings/jewelry in my DFX and a Explorer or E-Trac.

Hi, I think its just a fact of detecting life that if you wanna find gold you gotta dig a ton of trash first. I myself keep the disc low if I even think its a good spot for a ring, use sounds as my guide to dig or not. One day only dug five tabs to get this sweet heavy gold band, so dig if in doubt. HH L8R

Well, thanks again for all the advice from the members. I'm not surprised at the comments, I was just sorta hoping there was a magical combination that I hadn't thought about. So I guess it's back to the trash pits if I want to find any of that yellow gold! digntyme

welcome to the harsh cruel reality of metal detecting, with ANY brand, and ANY machine: gold and aluminum share the same conductivity :(

If anyone tries to tell you that gold rings read at certain zones on the cross-hairs up/down/left/right axis, or if someone tries to tell you gold "sounds" different than aluminum, then do this: Quickly take that person out to the nearest inner city blighted junky urban park. Turn them loose, and see just how much gold they dig up, while leaving aluminum in the ground. My hunch is that they will stop making the claim asap!
