I would like to know how many of you fourm users and t hunters use a log book and how helpful is it and what kind of info is input into your log books thanks pettit

I do (for the most part), but it's more for re-hunting a spot I'd made a decent find at, at a future date. I found a 2 cent piece at one site (where a homestead once stood)....and regardless of hunting it 2-3 more times (and pretty thoroughly)....it was the only find the site produced.

I do (or I should say my wife does).----We hunt together and she has kept a log book of the hunts etc. for the last nine years, when I got her started detecting.---She's a retired school teacher and you know how they are with writing, etc.---That log book has become really valued/appreciated by us both over the years though.----It contains dates of hunts, location, detectors and coils used, description of finds, etc.---the whole "ball of wax".----It's a good "tool" to go back in it and see how you did at certain places and the equipment used to see what you might (possibly) do to improve results in a certain area(s).----------Del

I just started using one in Nov of last yr but all I put in mine is date, where I hunted, how long I was there, total amt found then break it down by coin domination add in any other type of good finds and which detector(s) i used that day.

I use this simple little program to keep track of my spots and my finds with certain detectors and how much coins I have found.

I kept track last year just to see how much I can find in a given amount of hours and keep track of battery usage.
Not to mention show the wife...... a way to show that another detector is a justified expense...:bouncy:

I started hunting in 1976 and have always kept a log book. I use a three ring binder with a tablet that fits inside.
I have a software program (I detect) but have never installed it.

I carry a GPS unit with me and use it when I make a decent find. Found a 1879 Indian Head Penny once out in some woods and marked it with GPS unit. Went back about a week later and found a civil war bullet. I go over board and jot down weather conditions and time of day I make the find. Only takes a few seconds and I guess its something to look back on.
