long cables

I'm a little confused by something I've heard in the past. It's been said that a shorter coil cable gives the unit more power for detection. If this is so, should eliminating the meter and all of that extra cable on the Sovereign Elite give better performance.

I think the issue with the shorter cable involes the weight issue, the shorter cables have less weight,I see where the original cables are replaced with a shielded cable, this I believe would probally enhance the preformance,as for dumping the meter and getting more power or better performance I personally dont belive this would enhance anything, the meter for me is an intergual part of the sov. and with the meter it enables you to get a better idea of the target before you dig ,I however am a fan of the shortened cables, seems to make a signifant difference in the weight and looks much cleaner as well......as always just my opinion....there are people here that will give more accurtate details, and I hope they chime in....take care and dont shorten any cables unless your certian you can perform the task, without messing up your unit.....good luck

Mostly like Adam said..........
It cuts weight a little, looks cleaner.
Also makes coil changes easier.
Some say that it improves depth a bit, but have not seen this myself. I do think that it reduces external noise pickup a little.
Shortening the cables will reduce cable crosstalk and noise pickup a bit, but the resistance of the extra wire is insignificant to the point that I would not say that it would reduce the power out or the recieved signal in to any noticeable degree.
You don't want to shorten things up if you ever want to hip or chest mount.
If you do decide to cut off some extra, make sure you leave enough coil cable to reach the box in case you remove the meter for some reason.

I wasn't really planning to cut the main cable that runs to the coil. I was really thinking of eliminating the meter. I've use the excaliber for years and I'm more in tune to the sounds instead of checking the meter. Used it without the meter yesterday on the beach and found a nice ring. Sure feels a lot easier to swing. Speaking about Excalibers. Does anyone have a used one for parts? A lighting storm blew out my motherboard. Thanks for the responce folks. Ron

How many wire in the cable ?
