I had awful insomnia last night. Never did get to sleep. Went out real early this morning and hit a new site just as the sun was coming up. Nothing all that great except for three wheats. One thing of note. The clad was mostly deeper than 4 inches. There was very little from the surface down to 3 inches which makes me think maybe somebody cherry picked the shallow stuff. There sure was a lot of clad, though. 107 coins in 2 1/2 hours with the stock coil. FYI, the site dated back to the 1930s so I guessed there would be silver there. I was finally ready for a nap.

Had a decent nap and some lunch and started thinking about where I wanted to go detecting on Saturday. I decided I wanted to return to this mornings site and that I wanted to go this afternoon rather than wait. On the way I hit my new favorite silver site. It was the place I went last weekend and got 12 wheats. I swapped to the 12.5 inch coil to hopefully nab a deeper silver coin or two. I budgeted myself 1 hour. Got 11 more wheats. A surprise Kennedy half. A laser tag token. A "friends" dog tag. I also got the silver coins I was hoping for. First got the 52 Rosie. 9 inches and under a big rock. How it got there I have no idea. Second was a 44 Merc. 4-5 inches deep. Surprisingly no quarters. I stayed for 1 1/4 hours and headed off to the site from this morning. I was itching to unleash the big coil there.

I tried a different side of the school to start with the 12.5 incher still attached. Popped a few coins and then got the giant ring. I was super happy because it hit right where a big gold ring would and it sure looked like gold. I wiped it off and saw the mark. Steel. A first for me. It's a nice ring but it ain't gold. I had hoped to go to dusk but my body was revolting against me. I started skipping zinc cent signals early on in the hunt. I'll get them next time. Got a mess of coins with three wheats and still very few quarters. Also a Croatian coin and a cool Yankee key along with a toy car. I decided to cherry pick a few quarters and get home. I stumbled around and dug a dozen or so coins. Decided on one more quarter to end the day. Next quarter signal I dug the sterling St. Mary religious medal. Nice. Next quarter signal I got a shallow 1944 Merc. I wasn't centered at all. Very nice. I wished I could have stayed but my body kept begging me to leave. I never did get that last quarter which would have made it an even 20. Look at all those nickles. Makes me think even more somebody has been cherry picking the site. Only held up for 1 3/4 hour, all with the 12.5 inch imaging coil, which made it over an hour until dusk. Best laid plans....

Came home to find a pal had hung a bag of homegrown tomatoes on my door knob. My dinner problem was solved. BLTs. Now let me tell you. If you have about a thousand tiny cuts and cracks on your fingers don't eat a juicy tomato. I am dead tired so naturally my neighbors are stomping around the building like orangutans doing God knows what. The front door has slammed about a hundred times in the past half hour. Bunch of savages in this building. No wonder I spend so much time out digging.
To close, and I realize many of you haven't made it this far, I often give advice on this forum to get the sniper coil instead of the large imaging coil. I take that back. I removed my sniper coil from it's permanant shaft and put my 12.5 incher on it to make swapping between it and my stock coil easier. I have been getting a fair amount of silver (none of those 30 inch coins though) and I give full credit to my big coil. I set yet another goal for myself and I'm hoping to get as many silver coins this year as I did with in the past two seasons. Should be pretty simple. I'm three ahead of 2008 already and 2007 wasn't a great year for silver for me. I also passed my 2008 wheat total today. Roughly 1.25% of all my finds this year have been wheats. Last year .90% of my finds were wheats. More statistics.

My first three silver coin day of the year. My best wheat day ever.
This post was too long. Sorry.
(Added later) I kept the junk at my silver site just to see how much I was actully digging.
