A couple of days ago I had a hit that I thought was something below a rock I was passing over, but it turned out to be the rock itself. I know meteorites can be found with metal detectors, but this rock does not appear to be particularly dense, and does appear to have ferrous material in it. My question: Is this a common occurance? I've found wire embedded in a log by passing my detector over it, and a shell casing in the roots in a tree that had fallen over, so I'm trying to be thorough in my searching. I bring all that I find back for appropriate disposal or hoarding. Should I collect rocks, too?
