looking for the manual for beachscan pi

Jason73

New member
:thumbup:Hey i'm a newbe in metal detecting in general and need some help. I am looking for a manual for my beachscan pi metal detector by eric foster. This detector doesn't have any stickers to say it is a beachscan .so i'm going by what i was told by
the person that i bought it from. does any one have any pictures of their beachscan .i did some research on the web and really can't find any pictures of this unit other then mine

1STt i need a manual for it

2ND i need to know about the SAT control

3RD the beachscans that have the belt mounting bracket and a sat control .What model is this ? beachscan, 2 ,or mk2 ???

4th what is a reasonable depth that i should expect on a salt water beaches (east coast South Carolina) on most gold rings

I hope i can really get a good response from anyone that has any info on this little machine

i will post pictures of mine later

thank you and HH and God bless

Your best bet is to contact Mr. Bill at Surfscanner detectors. He is a moderator on the forums here. He used to sell them.

Thank you goodmore for your response- I did just that- but Mr Bill couldn't hook me up with a manual. So that is why i am asking for anyone that may have a old manual out there they can post. Plus i am still trying to digest all the info that i was given.:)with this being my first PI machine. i what to get it right!so i don't mess up my settings

thanks

HH and God bless

Sounds like you got a fantastic unit. Very rare to find one in today's market. I heard many good things about it.

Yes - i was lucky to get it .i wonder how it compares to the older sword excalibur as far as depth ?

I thought I remembered hearing somewhere that the Headhunter PI uses the electronics from the Beachscan. Maybe the instructions for that machine would help. Someone had posted once a very detailed precise method for tuning that machine. I think required turning back very slightly the frequency control, but there was more to it than that. I know for Self Adjusting Threshold, lower is better in most circumstances, as it allows signals to be detected deeper, but the lower it is the noisier it is. On Similar, later models(Goldquest SS), I usually end up setting the SAT around 2/3, but I don't know if this is relevant. I would expect around a foot on a gold ring, plus or minus depending on size and conductivity, possibly a bit deeper if the conditions were right. I got much good information out of the book:

Thanks for the comment verylazybeachbum I will have to check out the HH Pi out and see if the controls are similar.I will also try to find the book you recommended

1st run the threshold as low as possible and still hear it

2nd run the reject on MIN

3rd SAT speed matching my sweep speed and tuning it up or down as needed

Right !!!
i would like to put some pictures on but need to take pictures first .
still wondering about what the difference is between the regular beachscan and the beachscan 2 or are they the same

HH God bless

Finally i was able to post the pictures of my pi unit .Is this a beachscan 2 or a plain beachscan. i even heard of a beachscan mk2 if that is possible.

HH and God bless:wiggle:

Thank you REG .i read the manual and is exactly what i was looking for .:clapping:
The threshold on my detector was very unstable and must have been from RF interference.Because i took it out to a park and it was ok but at home it is so unstable.
So are there 3 models of beachscan pi and if so what do i have ?since i don't have a sticker to tell me.i would like to make a label
i understand the manual says mk2 but is that what i have ?

Winner!!!!

The Beachscan can be seen in the following link:

http://www.findmall.com/read.php?34,1434313,1434313

I don't think the beachscan ever had a SAT. I don't see any mention of it in the instructions that Reg posted. It does mention a transparent lid, but I think the SAT wasn't added until later models.

I'm pretty sure what you have is the Goldquest SS V1. It is the newer generation of the Beachscan. The pulse delay goes much lower 10us, good for finding smaller gold. It is just like the Aquasearch, but not waterproof. Here is one method for tuning this machine:

http://goldquestdetectorguide.blogspot.com/

Plus there is lots of info on this forum if you search for Goldquest (there was an older high powered Goldquest, ignore that one, focus on the SS) or Aquasearch.

What size coil came with it?

Brad

OH MY WORD . THAT IS CRAZY. THANK YOU SO MUCH verylazybeachbum :please:when i bought it i was told it was a beachscan! so i took his word .with no labels to go by and looking for a picture on the internet. i couldn't find a picture except. what he had put on ebay.In fact the former owner actually posted on this forum last year the exact unit i own now.he wanted to know if it was good for prospecting and no one replied to his post. I guess that was good for me because i won it on e-bay The coil size is an 11 in coil i believe it actually measures 11 1/2 in across its face . I totally missed that the mk2 doesn't mention a SAT control.:wiggle:
Is their a way to find how old this unit is? was it only made a couple years?can you tell by the serial number ? i know i have asked alot of questions since i started this post but i hope you understand!!! not knowing was driving me crazy.
i will be at folly beach South Carolina next month and wanted to know about the unit :detecting:

Thank you so much for everyone that replied to this post .you guys are super

Jason,

The Beachscan and the Goldquest are almost the same unit except for some minor changes allowing the GQ to detect smaller gold. So, the Beachscan manual will work just fine for the GQ but it will not address the SAT or whatever control is missing. That control is basically self explanatory with a little use.

The GQ and the GQ V2 are again, almost the same except for the addition of a second filter and maybe the changing of the coil connector. Again, the controls are fundamentally the same.

Reg

Thank you REG I really appreciative your help and hard work and wealth of knowledge in all your posts. The main purpose for my first initial question was to get a manual for my detector.
I thought i had a beachscan but looking at pictures of a GQ SS i know believe that must be what i have.In the 6 days i have learned so much and hope to learn more. I believe without this forum i would still not really know what i have.
So the GQ is still the beachscan family and will use the manual for now.

Thanks again for a quick reply to my many questions

Send me an email and if I ever come across the manual I'll send you a copy. (I tried to send you a message but it didn't work.)

I have a Mk 2 Beachscan which has a S.A.T control its identical to the Goldquest SS shown except for the decals on top of the control box

thanks UK George for your post
