Lorenz Deep Max X3 as a surf machine?

Why! cost, doesn't detect smaller items??? There is a range of perfectly good waterproof units that will do the job at a resonable cost. Don

sugest you contact lorenz about that possibility. They may have some insight on your question. Also lorenz like pulse starr have larger coils available to search larger areas in less time and with greater depth capabilities. HH Caliehunter

You should ask the Usec rating on their detector for small and large objects and see what they tell you! Also, their statement about big increase in power to detect objects, flys in the face of experiment by Eric when he did this idea to try and improve depth when Fisher was searching for the Atocha__he only gained a couple of inches, check back post. As far as a larger object underwater apparently in shallow water or surf, if the coil is waterproof, you can suspend it, the units doesn't have to go under. Good Luck! I would think a long time before spending my money, see if you casn find anyone who has used one in the field. Don

Everybody seems to make huge claims for their machines as though the marketing guys have gone wild. It is a lot of jingle for the unit and I'm not in a rush. Thanks again for the sage advice.

the unit is a lot of money i agree but remember the fact and i mean FACT the bigger the coil the deeper the depth reach ,anyone trying to tell you otherwise is wrong. HH Caliehunter

No question on that, what this individual is trying to do is unknown, so it is a little hard to make recommendations. These units are known about but you do not see them in use. The Usec rating is essential to know if application will work. I have read their marketing spread on the unit and I see several mistakes, such as the power issue I mention. So it is a lot of hype for the money and again depending on applications there are proven detectors which well may do the job at much better cost.
