Lots of work but meager findings.

Tuesday morning I started out on my expedition back to the township where Old Town exists; there are at least five other sites within the township where other villages/towns started out, thrived for a short time and then faded from history. The site I visited Tuesday is called Blakesburg.
Blakesburg started out about the same time as Old Town, 1824, and continued on until around the 1860

I'm going to have to go back and use a bigger coil just
to punch through the thick compost. I think there IS stuff there
along the creek bank. Turns out the town was located on the SLOPE
of the hill. Not on the top in the farm fields. There is also said to be
remains of indiana villages/artifacts along the bank as well. I'm
just looking in the wrong place. There are no markings left to
indicate where anything was located. Even the old Mill that was there
is completely erased.

Look at it this way. You are walking in the footsteps of others from long ago.Imagine what things were like then.Money bought alot more than today,so it was guarded more and spent wisely.Enjoy the things you did find,yearn for the things you didn't find. Be thankful for the kindness of the property owner(s) who allowed you license and trust to search for historic finds (even if it isn't a big treasure). Many would love to be in your shoes to be able to search that area.Maybe you can return and search again?...........GS

I just located another person, a wife from one of the local farms who gave me a name to contact.
She thought this person might have a photo of the old Hotel before it was torn down. In the process
of the conversation she told me, "Me and my husband took a walk down by the creek east of the bridge.
We found old foundations......" SOOOooooooo it turned out I was hunting in the wrong place!!!!!!!
All I can say is CRAP! Well, its raining here now but when the weather clears up I'm driving back and
see what I can find. It turns out that the new contact she gave me , gave me another contact, an elderly
lady in her eighties who DOES have a photo but shes ill batteling cancer. Said to call her in a couple
weeks if she was feeling better. This is really iffy situation. The first contact told me SHE has an old photo
but its one she can't identify. It may or may not be of the old hotel. I want to make a copy so I can get one
to the Historical society and onbe to the library. Also I want one for myself.

I feel like I'm getting close and yet still so far away!

Oh yea....snakes. Turns out they have them but everyone assures me they arn't dangerous. I wonder if
the snakes know that? They tell me they are more than likely sleeping it off by now. Yea. Right!

I need to know about hunting those old dumps. There must have been dumps people threw their trash in.
I need to get an Idea from you all how far out from a foundation I should be looking. Also,are there any
tell tale signs I should notice?

I guess i didn't catch which state this is in. If it is level with Pennsylvania or below,,,,,Wear a revolver with shot shells and work with one ear muff off your ear.That way no surprises and no bites high top boots or leggings work good in known rattlesnake area's. I hope you have a great time exploring and I hope you find some great stuff and maybe some with historical significance....GS

detecting with a partner is a safe thing to do also.
