Low pitch hum and long "iron" grunt

The hunt before last I got a 2 to 3 second loud grunt then it quit and repeated a few more times. My battery was low as it was at the end of a hunt.

I checked the coil stiffner and headphones and don't see any obvious signs of cracking but I have rubberized electrical tape over it for strengthing. It is possible something is wrong underneath but it seems unlikely.

The next hunt (charged batteries) did not have that but I hear an electrical hum in the background. Not part of the threshold tone.

Has anyone experienced this? I am using the 17" coil and will switch out to the 11" for testing.

It sounds to me like you have a a couple wires with a short involved. Post back your 11” result….
