lower and middle stem XS

Eric

New member
I have a XS with an 8 inch coil attached to it. Is it possible to replace it with a black lower and middle rod used on the SE? A dealer mentioned that if the 8'' is of the earlier type, it could be possible that the cable could not make it through the pole.

Thanks, Eric

I can tell you it will go in the lower rod...I have had all my coils on it....the WOT 15" was the hardest....due to much expansion of the coiled part....but there is a way to get it thru, by using a wire to use as a fishing line to pull it in....or you can push connector in and then use lower rod as a fly rod and swing it and it will poke out the top.....but seems I have heard someone say not to use the upper rods on the XS's cause it may split or crack the housing at the cam.......I just use the lower black rod on mine and use the orig. XS upper rod.....I never liked the old XS lower rod and the groove in it....what a pain, also it is very weak at the bottom and bigger coils tend to make it wobble while swinging it. Thats why I use the lower Black rod. It is not a tight fit but good enough, it will hold rod but will push in if you lean on it with some force....Just can't use it as a leaning post.....

Thanks, i will order a lower rod then. I asked the same question on minelabowners.com and there was a discussion about there rods. I also have to get a new upper stem but have to put everything on myself.

HH, Eric

I can tell you that I had a fit trying to thread the wire for the 5 inch ecellerator coil through the lower rod of the explorer pro I finally did it by compressing the coiled part by simultaneously twisting and pushing the wire through the tube but not a very easy fit.. you could try liquid soap.
