Lower Rod Bolts ..SuK

You can get nylon toilet seat bolts that tighten a bit more, but just as important are the teardrop washers, they soon wear if you have slop. I cut out some spare from an old bycicle inner tube and put them under the originals.

On the Explorer Series Minelab went to the next size larger nylon bolt and it holds much better. Still will work loose over time but much better than the 1/4" bolts used on the Sov Series..especially when using larger coils. I guess Minelab never changed the Sov's to the larger size as they wanted to maintain backward compatibility with the older coils. I drilled out my coils and lower shafts to accommodate the Explorer size nylon nuts and bolts and my coils have much less movement. I bought a good supply of the bolts and wingnuts from McMaster Carr. Obviously drilling them out will void any warranty you might have and will also make selling your coils a problem unless you sell them with the lower shafts. Anyway that was my solution. I am sure others have come up with other ways to stabilize the coils.
