Lower Sensitivity Works

After reading Mike's theory on sensitivity I decided to go back to an area I hunted 2 weeks ago and found some military buttons to see what if anything I missed. Lo and Behold if I didn't find a lot more targets that I missed. Found 1 whole and a half of an old wheat along with a Roy Rogers and Trigger Ring. Also found a very old 5 cent amusement token I have never seen before and an old 10ga. shotgun shell which is always a nice sounding target. Nothing major but the point is lower apparently works like a lot of you have said whereas I have always tried the max and then some, not any more. Thanks Mike, almost forgot I did find another older button, the old metal type with the slot in it, I'll take pic's. a little later tonight. Thanks for looking

Glad that helped. I'm excited because I'm going to hit a few spots tomorrow that have been absolutely POUNDED for years and produced some nice finds. I'm not sure if there's anything left at this point but if there is I have confidence I'll find it. The spots I have in mind are all tough ground with iron masking and give most machines fits. I've had some success hitting them with the Quattro and the Explorer II and making a few more nice finds but I know I was running too hot with them.

I was using the new Explorer II with my new Platypus Coil and running IM-14 with sensitivity at 17 and gain at 8 in the deep mode and really slow slow slow. It worked for me

If it wasn't for your post on sensitivity I would still be maxing out. I actually thought I had hunted it clean and hard until today. Who knows whats left in other spots I've been to, guess I'll soon find out.

Exceptional finds. Too bad the Roy Rogers Ring isn't complete. Some of those toy rings are worth a few bucks. I tried to look it up in my toy rings book I have but is not listed in mine. Hope you find some silver next time out.

Actually silver was the least of my concerns. The big thing was checking an area I had thought I hit quite well. I was more than satisfied with the finds. The R.R. ring is a premium ring from 1949 Mother Oats and originally had a red plastic attachment for a microscope on it. Didn't check any price as I have yet to get rid of anything I have ever found except rings to the wife, daughters and granddaughters. I did manage a silver ring this past weekend.

I have the XS and Platypus, try gain at 4, still goes down there but the deepies sound deep. I was on some high mineral sand running sensitivity 16 auto and the dang thing found a head from an earing post smaller than a BB. It was on the surface but I was amazed it was sounding to the coil. Also found a nickle and junk ring in a 3 ft area of hot rocks

Tried a new area we have pounded with every machine made including the XS today and will take pic's a little later. I lowed sensitivity down to 16 today and was still picking up deepies. Will have to try something on the lower end just to play around with, you did mean the setting 4 didn't you? That seems awful low but who knows

I have the same problem with my finds. It's just too hard to get rid of something that you worked so hard for. Glad to here you finding things still anyways.

Thats gain at 4, not sensitivity. I was checking response on middle deep targets and was surprised that with the big coil they had lots of volume with gain at 4. Sensitivity at 4 got not, where as middle numbers played out bestest.

That's what happens when you get older, you misread words. Thanks for the clarification, I went back and read the old post and it was my mistake

WTG jb!! I tried the lower sensitivity also and I think Mike is on to something. I will post the club hunt from yesterday a little later. HH.
