Luck O' The Irish

I've had my MXT for about 8 months now, and finally decided to try my "backyard". I new there used to be a house there when I was a kid but had forgotten about it until a neighbor asked if I had hunted there yet. My memory was of a small house that wasn't all that old, so I kept putting it off and hunting what I thought were more promising sites until last week. My uncle started a garden on the old homesite 3-4 years ago, so it has been plowed and rototilled several times. The garden is practically covered in broken glass, china, stoneware etc. as well as lots of iron, tin and copper scrap. This piece turned up after a '47 FDR dime, 1893 & 1904 IH's, and 5 Wheats from 1913 to 1940. I'd been really hoping for a 1909 penny, and when I got a hit at VDI 74 to 76 I thought I might have one. Oh well, this is much nicer than any ole penny.

Turns out that it was only half a penny. A George III IRISH Halfpence to be exact a la 1781. I'm still pinching myself to see if it's a dream. Got some research to do to find out how it ended up here in northeast KY.

Details- MXT, 4x6 Shooter coil, Ground=62, DISC=2.5, Gain= +2 VDI= 74-76.

The obverse is ole King George himself and the reverse is a harp and crown with HIBERNIA(the old name for Ireland) around the rim.

Good Huntin

Thanks Richard. It sure shocked me to find one in KY. Its usually the East Coast guys that turn up old coppers. Guess I really shouldn't be though, since I live on the OH River, which was the main thoroughfair through these parts. Hoping to beep out some old French stuff someday.

Keep Swingin
