Lunch hunt

New member
Things are sorta slow around this time of year due to the cold so at lunch today decided to do a quick hunt . Tnvarmint and I went a very hunted local park and there was a few good signals but the ground was frozen hard very hard . I was able to dig one zincoln and it was looking to be a disappointing hunt . We had went deep in the park and was making a general turn towards the cars to head out back to work . Then very close to a large tree came a glimmer of hope it was a faint 12-44 to 12-45 signal .While pinpointing I found that there was a ferrous signal within inches . Working in a circular pattern I was able to close in on the target and separate the trash signal . After breaking through the frozen surface the soil underneath was soft and very moist . At almost 10 inches out came a very rough looking mercury dime and after some light cleaning the date could be made out to be 1941. Tonight I will give her a nice warm bath and some TLC . So what looked to be a discouraging hunt turned to silver and made my day . The find for the day was 11 cents that does not sound like much but given the weather I'll take it.:detecting:

Cool! I love merc's. It was worth chipping through the ice, for sure.

Congratulations on the finds Dr. Bill! I really hope you're not a brain surgeon or such. I would have a hard time controlling myself if I were going in for some cranium work and saw my surgeon chasing a metal detector around the park on his lunch hour. :poke:

Congratulations on the 10" deep Merc. and thanks for the picture!
