Ya know I think I can get a job easier now. If I say I'll practice learning to play the piano for the Lord...a job will turn up so it can take time away from using that time for the glory of the Lord.

Sherry and I decided some things about the TV. Time for the satellite service to go! We love the DirectTV and when good programs can be found there is always the trashy commercials (under dressed people, personal products, etc.) which one can't control. Not only will we be rid of the trash but here is our other blessings from getting rid of it. (1) What we spend ($55 a month) on the service will now go to the church!
(2) Sherry has her music she would rather do and has the internet too for her amusement.
(3) I now have the electronic piano to learn how to play, plus the Q-Chord and I am enrolled in a couple on line Bible study programs (one is a mentorship program and the other is "The Cross: Finding Life in Jesus' Death"). One is a 120 day course (mentorship) and the other is a 60 day course. So I will have plenty to keep me busy and entertained...doesn't sound like the right word as learning more about Jesus is not entertainment but much much more.
(4) Casey is hardly here any more and when she is she is busy doing homework. So she won't miss the service and certainly didn't need to watch the trashy commercials.
(5) Summertime there is more outside things to do so why waste the money for a couple hours a day watching?
(6) We can get free videos to watch from the library - and better control the viewing...few trash commercials in these - yet.
(7) We have Christian radio stations we can listen to...and I just bought a nice table top radio for $1 that wasn't working...but it is now Thank you Father for the talent.
( We all like to read. So who needs TV...besides with digital tv coming out why waste money to buy a tv to replace one that will be fine for playing DVD and VHS right.

Thinking there is even more blessings but these are just a few.

This is in Casey's range and she loves the song because 'it fits her range'. I love it because of the meaning of this song and the beautiful voice of Kelly Williams (she is blind BTW).

Congrats Bro Pete on another blessing from God through a dear sister on this forum! May everything work out for each of you for God's purpose and HIs glory! My brother pays for the Direct TV, as he had it while in Florida, and I would miss it because I like to watch the church programs on Sundays! I like to see and listen to Dr. James D. Kennedy and Adrian Rogers, although they've both passed away their videos are still played! Since we are trying to get my home ready for sale and intend to buy another in the country, we watch the programs about how to get homes ready to sell and how to look at homes before buying! I watch certain game shows and jeopardy and enjoy them, but the commercials drive me nuts! Could do without them for sure!

Dr. Kennedy and Adrian Rogers were both very good preachers of God's Holy Word and will be missed because of their stand for Jesus, our blessed Lord and Savior!

Betty when you get moved you might look into high speed internet. We have it here and we can watch videos..like YouTube, GodTube, etc. and there are podcasts that can be viewed. Sherry and I love watching Joyce Meyer and her website does have her podcasts on there to watch and download if you want to watch whenever. Oh yeah there are also software programs that can put a tv on your computer...I have one I watc only Christian broadcasting on.

Sherry too loves HGTV and the Food channel. I'll miss some SciFi stuff but then I still can get most of what they show on DVD at the library. We have a collection of VHS and DVDs we've gotten cheap from yard sales, the $5 bin at Walmart, etc. For us letting the people who do commercials force their smut into our households is wrog, wrong, wrong...and it is getting worse not better. Everything sold seems to have to do with 'dissatisfaction'..dissatified with your love life, dissatified with the way God made someone, dissatisfied about your cleaning tools, dissatisfied with this that and the other things in life...and about 'personal' things only Mothers and Daughters once shared in conversations in the secret of a room all to themselves...not shoved in our faces while we are eating a meal, etc.

We'd like to see morals change but not going to happen on TV. We'd rather put the money from that into our church where it will help our community and bring others to Christ. Not saying anyone else has to do that...just our choice.

I agree Bro Pete and to each his own! Since my brother pays for Direct TV I will be watching or listening to those I like! Any others I read what they're about and if they aren't good or have bedroom scenes, blood and guts or vulgar talking, I don't continue on those....I am not much on movies unless a really good one comes on....Cliff likes the old black and white ones and the Westerns....I just listen while I am using the Computer!

I'm sure you will be blessed mightily by giving the money to the church rather than the Direct TV company! I don't listen to Joyce Meyers any more, but I used to.......because she's spent too much money on herself and her children! Buys very expensive things and owns lots of property! Lot of write ups about her in the newspapers and also I have gone to her church with a friend! My friend had given her tithes to her church but when she was in desperate need of money to make her mortgage payment.....no help did she receive from her own church where she gave them all that money through tithing! Therefore, I have nothing to do with Joyce Meyer's Ministry anymore! I used to send her $5.00 a month for her tape for the month and when I couldn't send the money, she quit sending her tapes! Other ministers used to send me their tapes and books even when I couldn't pay, but did give money most of the time! I don't like these big time preachers that get too wealthy and think they are kings &/or queens!

But you do what God tells you to do and may He bless you and yours always!!

I have to agree about the bigger they get the more off center they become. I used to love hearing Kenneth Copeland. The messages were what I needed to hear. One day flipping channels, I saw KC. What I heard turned me off. He said "What? Are you stupid?"

Now I don't know what he had been talking about up to that point but I thought this was way out of line. Does one call a Brother or Sister in Christ 'stupid'? I think the Word of God: 2Tim 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" and maybe I am wrong but doesn't the Holy Spirit convict us when we are doing something wrong?

So where does the Bible say "Call your Brother or Sister 'stupid'"?

My brother in law loved to watch Dr. Gene Scott. I watched a couple times. Once he talkes about someone entering a pyramid and "all that bat dung he had to go through". It was bat dung this and that for almost the whole length of his program. Another time he said in his chair, had a band play a song, he had them play it again because the phones weren't ringing with people giving pledges, so the phones still didn't ring...he made that poor group of musicians play that same song over and over again...at least 8 times back to back and he said he would not say a word about anything unless the phones started ringing with pledges. Some man of God he was. I shut off the tv so I don't know how long he continued to torment those musicians and 'his followers'.

I did hear that Joyce Meyer and some others are under investigation because as you mentioned it appears money is not being spent wisely or according to IRS dictates. I like the messages - can't speak for the messenger as I have watcher her maybe 5 times.

Was just mentioning her when talking about software that allows you to watch tv on your computer and there are some good Christian broadcasting out there.....there is also total nude porn. Tried a Spanish channel I had never seen before. As the Bible says Eph 5:12 "For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret." Didn't take but an instant to know what was going on and shut down the program.

My brother, Larry, used to watch and listen to Kenneth Copeland until he out grew him so to speak! What he had to preach at the time was what he needed and what Joyce Meyers had to preach at the time, I needed, but we went on to better preachers when we got into the Scriptures and studied what is the truth of God! Both Joyce and KC preach on prosperity too much as that is all they think about mostly is getting more money sent to them! I turn off those who only beg for money and don't preach......I sure don't believe they are anointed of God, but I could be wrong and I certainly don't want to judge them, as God knows them better than me!

The preachers should go on their knees and ask God for what they need and not say a word on TV or Radio just like we do! The Holy Spirit will quicken those who God wants to give and how much! Their faith is not in God but in the people! Sad too!!!
