Making a 15 inch coil lighter

Larrywv

New member
I'm new to the forum so I hope everyone had a good Christmas. I got a 15 inch Teknetic coil and most know how heavy it is. Has anyone tried cutting the fins out to make it lighter. Any help how to do it would be appreciated. Thanks Larry

I've seen it but not tried it....even seen the fins on the 11DD cut off.

Just a dremel or a hacksaw I guess. Being careful not to breach the inside of the coil.

No idea if it makes a noticeable difference or not....obviously voids warranty.

Thanks for the feedback, I did look on your site for info and also enjoy your video's. I've been told that the fins removed on a 11 inch coil reduces it about a half of pound so on a 15 inch coil being solid I think should yield a good bit. I don't know how far back to cut before beaching the coil or how to keep the coil cover on with the fins removed that's why I was hoping someone has done it. Right now I'm using a sling with it so that helps but sometimes a pain. On a good note I did find a nice CW bullet this morning.

I'd say just make a bungee thingy to take of most of ALL the total weight.
All you need is a bungee cord,
some good quality nylon ties,
and a gym bag shoulder strap.
This is actually my brother's creation, he bought a Swing Thingy and he liked the idea but its wasn't very easy to switch between detectors so he came up with this system. I have the parts but I've not had an issue with detector weight yet enough to for me to use it, but he swears by it. He takes one nylon tie and connects a loop of another to the upper part of the detector shaft and cuts the length of the bungee for a rough adjustment and then uses the adjustable shoulder strap to fine adjust it. See Pictures below.

Detector pro makes a sling similar to that for $25 new,I have one and it’s very easy to use..If you swing right handed the loop goes over your left arm and up to the left shoulder,,then the rest comes over your right shoulder from behind your neck, and down the front right side to the machine.. very comfortable on the explorer and that machine is heavy, makes it feel like a Eurotek...There are images that I can’t load of it on a person,,if you google detector pro sling they will come up..Good luck
