Makro RC13 coil sensitivity issue?

Hello all, I just purchased the small coil for my Racer 2 and was able to use it today for the first time. I noticed that during ground balancing, it make a loud waivering tone. After ground balancing it sounds like the coil is picking up some EMI. I tried backing the sensitivity down around 20 but it still does it. The stock coil, running the same settings in the exact same location ground balances fine and doesn't sound like it is affected by any EMI. I'm running 3 tone, sensitivity 40 and ground balancing around 60. Do you think the coil is faulty or am I doing something wrong?
 
You were over some metal and did not realize it. Very normal when not in a very clear place. Also the machine switches to all metal when GBing so if you didn't hear it, it was deeper, and the AM hit it. You'll find with these new machine it will be very hard to find places to GB. Your other detectors can't see what they are seeing.

I thought the same thing. I have already tried to ground balance over clean soil in my own yard and get the same results. Like I said before, I had no problem with the stock coil under the same conditions.
 
might be a bad coil seems some quality control issues at Makro/Nokta , they seem like nice detectors but the more I look at mine its not worth any more than I paid for it that's for sure. they are low to low/ mid range detectors in build quality.

time will tell on how long they last.

I'm happy with mine, build quality is very good as far as I can tell. It might be a bad coil or it might be operator error, I'll be messing around with it more tomorrow. If I can't figure it out, I'm confident that Makro will make it right. They seem to be on point when it comes to customer service. Stuff happens and as long as it's fixed, no foul.
 
they have had problems from day dot with the plastics they use with cracking and splitting sure they will work it out , but to date for me its low quality plastic.

I can definitely see firsthand the R2 stock coil is superior than all the previous coils in build quality.
 
I don;t see this offered enough in the Makro Racer forums, but whenever EMI seems to be a problem with the Red Racer or Racer 2, you first need to find the best frequency to operate on. By simultaneously pulling the trigger and pressing either the right or left button you can toggle between channels 1 thru 5 to fine the cleaning sounding channel. Find your cleanest sounding channel (pick the channel with the least wavy sounds or interference) and then you can adjust gain to smooth out any remaining EMI, then proceed to ground balance as the final step before you hunt.

They did have some issues with plastic used and physical design of some of the original Racer series coils. They quickly took action to strengthen those coils of the earlier design. Now, the standard supplied 7X11 DD for the Racer 2 is the same basic design of the 7X11 used on the Nokta FORS series and they are very rugged. Better design, better look, better feel and balance with the rod-mount closer to the center of the coil. Quality improvements from a class-act company, to be sure.

I tried the frequency shift thing and all have the same problem. HOWEVER...When I unplugged my headphones, the problem went away! I was using a set of nice sonys that I used on other detectors. Going to try a different set, probably the stock ones first.
 
The R2 stock 11" DD coil is top notch IMHO. The R1 stock 11" DD coil. not so much, but it does get the job done.
 
Well after a brief email exchange with Dilek from Makro, I've got a package arriving next Monday. No doubt they have great customer service! I'll let you know if the replacement parts fix the issue!

what are they going to send you? I'm curious...is your small coil the older OOR 4.5 or the new R2 5.5?

They are sending the control box. I use the new R2 5.5 coil
 
I received the new control box this morning and after taking it for a quick spin with the small coil, It was immediately obvious that it fixed the issue. No problems at all, and as an added bonus it seems to have a smoother audio response. Quick turn around too!
