Wife looks for shark teeth when we are on the beach. She follows a page for local shark teeth hunters. There have been a handful of mammoth teeth found since the last beach replenishment. In past replenishment efforts 50 caliber rounds and shells have been pumped onto the beach. I'm not finding that to be the case this time. Perhaps I'll start looking for these teeth as I'm sweeping with the detector on the slope.

That is an amazing find!!!
Here is a picture from Oregon Prehistoric society of a juvenile mammoth tooth.
I suspect the one found on the beach is a part of one and not a whole tooth. I wish it had something else in the picture to indicate size like this picture from the UK:

From the looks of those photos in comparison to the one found, I believe you are correct about it only being part of a tooth.
I recall seeing on the news a few years ago that a fisherman brought one up in his fishing net!
It was huge!
Still, that is an exceptional find and better than a gold ring in my opinion!
