... two park rangers drove up on their land next door, got out of their truck and started taking photos of our car, us, and our equipment then asked if we had permission to be there.

We showed them our permission letter signed by the land owner, which they knew, and showed them the boundry marker flags we had placed about a foot inside the private property line, and then they got more friendly. They understood we were "good guys".

They told us how they have to use night vision and now I imagine thermal imaging equipment to catch night hawkers trying to detect the battlefield rain or moon lit night. After talking to them we decided it would be wise anytime someone drives through a National Battlefield park with detectors in their car, to have no battery pack in the detectors and the detectors "knocked down" so it was apparent they were not immediately ready for use.
