Manual - Set at 25 or above. Mr. Dankowski says that puts the Etrac in a sort of "boost" mode.

Depth is dictated by conditions. A 12" coil will probably not hit a coin 5" deep in heavy trash whereas a 5" coil would. Same is true with Auto vs Manual. Depends on conditions.
I have found deep coins that sounded like crap with manual 27 but sounded great in Auto +3 and visa versa.
