Manual sensitivity???

John (Ma)

New member
Does anyone use the manual ground instead of the auto? I usually bringit up to where it starts to be a little unstable and leave it and have got some deep targets. I based this off of the MXT I run as I always ran it a little unstable and got a little deeper. Any thought's or suggestions? Am I messing up or missing something? I am still very new to this detector so thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks :beers:

I found in my conditions that a manual setting of 11-18 was better than an auto of 24-28. try hunting in a lower manual setting, then switch to auto and see what shakes . your area may have differing circumstances, but I prefer a lower manual setting.

Only manual sensitivity. Automatic sensitivity seldom. All Metal, Multi, Ferrous, sensitivity 25 - 30, Normal (or Long)

I use both depending on the dirt. The stability of the machine is what you are striving for and the max sensitivity without being too chatty or jumpy is the best to get to the deep coins. So if you are in an area where the old coins are deep (and i do mean ARE) then the max sens with good stability becomes the issue. not every lawn has deep coins so auto will do just fine. IF your soil is highly mineralized auto + something will probably find to be stable. For me only a few spots where I have a surety that the coins are deeper do I use manual above the suggested sens of 2-6. I can get it up substantially higher with reasonable stability and hit deeper coins. Set like that the machine gives off more iffy signal ls that I am willing to dig as It may pay off sometimes and is fairly easy to dig but don't max up the sens like that on a nice lawn as you will be digging lots of holes with nothing good in them because of the instability of a high sensitivity.
I would suggest to you to stick to the Auto maybe plus three setting and if you start finding good deep targets then when done like that go back over it with a higher manual sens and see what happens. that is the way I do it.

I appreciate all of the feedback and welcome more. Sounds like I am in the ball park on setting up the sensitivity and have a little more playing with your suggestions.
