Mars MD Tiger coil on post april 2012 xterra 705?

eta-carinae

New member
hey folks,

does somebody know if the russian Mars MD Tiger coil is compatible with the post april 2012 xterra 705?
it looks real interesting in price and performance:

I removed the video link because they do not pay for advertising, and non-paying advertisements are not allowed.

Whether or not it is compatable or not, is of no importance until Minelab approves it. And I can assure you they WILL NOT!
It is being produced with pirated technology, and the theives should NOT be rewarded with any of your hard earned $.

okay thats a point of view,
but i think there are not so many coils for the xterras,
and for me as a simple user i think, competition is good for business. in europe there are alot of people using nel-coils
cause there are really good and more than 100euro cheaper then for e.g. the 15" minelab licensed coiltek ones...
...thats hard earned money ;)

There's a gazillion coils for the XTerra's eta-carinae. What're you on about. Well made quality legal coils. Not Russian rubbish like those outer space ones you've mentioned. Only every second coil would work anyway. Nice try for cheap plug though. But these blokes on the XTerra forum have been around a bit and are fully switched-on. If you're looking for an easy sell, try the mentally challenged guys over on the Tesoro forum.

no no,

you get me wrong i'm simply searching for a double d coil bigger then 13",
mid range freq. allround, waterproof the only one i can buy in western euope is the coiltek 15"
it costs 385$ !!!. if you know an licensed alternative i would be very happy ;)

Just to let you know talking about unlicensed coils here is a big no no. Not my rule mate, wish we could to benefit each other and not $. Anyway kellyco has them 15" for $294. That's more than half of what I have bought a new 705 for. I thought these were entry level detector by minelab but has a more than high end price for some coils. Even at $795 retail the wot are close to half that. I want one bad.

thanks dude,

i think i get it, that's a "hot iron" we say in german... ;)
yeah, really hope to see more licensed coils, cause i need a deep allrounder also for beachhunting.
hope they bring out the new 13" detech ultimate for a good price, but may it simply stands for the very good quality of the 705
and they think it could be a too hard competition to the etrac and safari if the coils are too cheap ;)

The problem is that SmartCoil

How do you know these things unless you are testing them? Just curious. I just would not want to throw any misinformation around. Is minelab testing them?
Minelab won't have anything to do with them. They have not negotiated for the technology or production rights. The reason that you see reference to pre or post 2012 production machines, is because Minelab changed their firmware to speciffically negate the use of unauthorized coils.
The only way that these coils can even be purchased here in the states is by mail order (or ebay...same thing), because they are a Patent infringement, and retailers could get in BIG trouble peddling them here. The only reason that they exist is because several EU countries don't recognize Patents internationally, which in turn opens the door for counterfeiters and thieves.

Check out the Authorized Coil information in the pinned FAQFAQ thread and you'll find links.

Hello,on a similar vein, when minelab changed the firmware to prevent fake coils, did they improve the 705 internaly or was it just the coil aspect that was changed ? Btw I own post 2012 and also purchased another minelab 10" dd 18.75 khz coil, can't afford to risk a fake coil damaging may machine. Any inormation grateful. Thanks

As far as I know, the coil issue was it. Making any other changes would be tricky, keeping in mind that everything has to remain compatable across two generations of existing machines.
Besides...what else should they have changed? The 705 is near a perfect machine to begin with!
