Maximum Depth (formerly; Nugget Settings)

Well, Mike and/or Jim, it looks like everyone is passing the buck to you guys. If you can help with this (slightly re-configured) question, thanks. Forget Hot Rock Disc., I can adjust that in the field. Which settings to start with achieve (Absolute) Maximum depth? What settings let the detector send the strongest/deepest signal regardless of any other factor?
Would it be--Sensitivity as high as I can get away with and Iron mask at -16? (or Iron ask off)
Is it true----The less disc, the more depth?
Blank (white) "Smart Screen" maximum depth?
I know that I will have to make some adjustments once I'm in the field.
Thanks in advance
Jerry

I'll take a stab at your question.
The deepest settings:
32 manual sensitivity; Recovery mode Deep.
As far as Discrimination causing loss of depth, it doesn't. If you accept only one target and reject everything else you will get the same depth as you would if you accepted everything.
Discrimination adds a task for the XS to process, that means it may have to reject a target next to an accept target thus slowing overall recovery between targets.
So depending on what your trying to accomplish, discrimination may affect depth in terms of recovery, but not in terms of raw depth.
Hope this additional answer helps a bit.

So will iron mask -16 go slighltly deeper than smart screen blank then?

Is the same as discrimination ( If iron mask is 100 pixels wide and smart screen is partially blacked out with 100 pixels it will have the EXACT same effect).

As far as I can tell Iron Mask and Smartfind reject or accept settings have no affect on raw depth capibility.
The depth loss that you might be thinking of is only when targets are discriminated or masked out more recovery from rejection null is in play and you may miss a deepie because you never had a chance to hear it.
The XS "seems" to recover faster from accepted targets than from rejected, or masked targets. In this case it would be more correct to say your missing targets instead of saying your losing depth.
