MDing Apps...

Does anyone use any apps (iPhone or Android) while metal detecting? I just started using this one on my android. Seems like it might be pretty good for keeping track o' my adventures. It uses GPS to record the locations, allows multiple photos, notes, and map views. The GPS seemed pretty accurate. The pushpin was about 15' off from the actual location in my yard. Close enough in my book. Depth is only in cm, but that's fine by me. I'll get used to it...

DigMate (Android) (iPhone)
Free on Android, $1.99 in iTunes. Sorry, Apple users...

So, what do you guys use (if anything)?

I don't use an app for finds or hunting spots. I use pen and paper just to record the areas I have permission to hunt, or parks. All though my memory isn't that good, I do remember where most of the spectacular coins were found and don't record them. For me it's one more thing to do that takes time. Sooo many things to do these days to keep up, I have to choose the priorities.
Of course, if that's what you like to do and you feel it helps, (like a good tool) by golly, do it,.... and I applaud you for it.....It is pretty neat though.

When it's no longer FUN, it's time to stop.
If you make it a job and too complicated, you will lose the will to search.

It only takes about 20 seconds to take a pic and add the depth. The GPS coordinates and maps are added automatically. I plan on adding notes after the hunt is over. I am going to map all the finds in my yard to try and figure out where the hot spots are. I've found 8 1700's coins so far, but I don't really know where each was when I found it. I do a lot of night hunting and lose my visual references. I love keeping records and my son likes to help. It seems like it's going to help a lot.

thats really intresting

I use GPS Essentials and GPS Status for a real accurate GPS location. both for Android... both are free and both make detecting/hunting a little more easier and fun if you are into tech. If your not into tech, then paper and pencil and compass will do. To each his own right? It's just surprising how much tech there is to add to the hunts....

Just got a neat new Android phone, free is my middle name, and I have already loaded it up and will try it out this morning.

Thank you very much!

You're welcome! I'm just surprised there aren't more apps available that are tailored specifically for detecting. I do have GPS Essentials, but haven't yet used it in the field. I will install GPS Status tonight. Thanks!
