Me and Ben found Liberty at the old ballfield today.

Found a new spot today. It's old and I think it may have been a fair ground at one time. It's now four ball diamonds and even they are old but still in use for little league. I hit the obvious areas and like most areas around here it was already gone over . I think it was because the few clad I did find was mixed with other trash.
So anyway I make a bee line for the back of the park where there are two ticket booths at the old entrance. In short order I get a few deeper clad maybe 4 inches. So now I'm thinken wow no Zink pennies this area is old and has not been hunted yet. After a few clad I get that loud 12: 43 @ 6 inches. It just sounded too loud to be a clad at that depth. BINGO a 1943 merc at about 5.5 inches. After that a 12:42 @ 6 inches proved to be a wheat right at 6 inches. Then I get this 12:44 @ 4inches. Seems like a little fast squeak to be a coin but was hitting consistent both directions. I'm now thinking just a penny mixed with garbage, maybe I should pass but there is seems to be just that little louder squeak there that doesn't even register in the numbers. I thought what the hecklers could be another shallow silver dime. I'll just dig it. I dig a 3 to 4 inch deep plug and grab my Pro pointer which I use for the shallow stuff. Stick it in the hole and nothing. Where is my stupid penny I thought. I grab my my TRX out of the bag and stick that in the hole. Chirp chirp chirp I get a faint signal dead center hole. Now I know this is a coin and it's deep. One of those you just know is going to be old and probably silver with such a strong signal which was short but strong. I slid my leech in along the side of the signal cocked it and pulled it out, with it came out the biggest silver rim I have seen to date in one of my holes. Man I should have got a picture!

So here he is my 16th silver for the year Mr Ben Franklin Woohooo!:wiggle:

I should have added that Benjamin was straight on edge at 7 inches which would explain the short squeak and bad depth reading.

Way to stick with that signal on old Benny - sometimes you just have to follow your intuition - the best detecting technology is right between your ears!

Great finds. I've found many different coins in about 40 years of detecting but I'm still looking for my first Ben Franklin half.

Great find, I take it you like the TRX? Why would you use two different pin pointers? Doesn't the TRX work on shallow targets? I saw them advertised as a deeper beeper, I was thinking of getting one.

Hi Jim

Yes I really like the TRX and I highly recommend it .

It cuts way down on my pinpointing time and my digging time, not to mention the size and effort to dig a plug. They will pay for themselfs in extra clad you can dig in the time saved.

It really shines in those tot lots and sand where you can just quickly X off your target then point it with the TRX. I can jam it into lose bark or sand without it falsing. Just makes life so much easier for those 2 to 4 inch targets that you now are likely clad but your not going to pass them up.

On deeper stuff I can tell faster if it's a coin or iron. Iron will most times be to one side of plug where other pointers can't detect it. This leads to unnecessary deeper holes and frustration. I have yet to not find my bent nail.

Now that all said I do find it easier to just grab my propointer when dealing with surface coins and uncovering that last half inch of hard dirt without gashing your would be 130 dollar 1909 barber dime that was mint condition laying in the dirt until it met me last year. Yes I turned one into scrap metal.

The TRX does ratchet down but it's allot of goffing around, it doesn't help that the button is on the right and my thumb on the left when holding it.

The TRX also seems to me to take about 5 seconds to warm up. Often times I will sweep a spot with nothing then a few s3bonds later go back over it and it sounds off.

The TRX also as you probably already know has no side sensitivity Wichita is not ideal for a surface coin.

I have a small tool bag I carry that has my leech, gasket scraper ,toothbrush, serated knife for small root cutting, bear spray for dogs that may not like me, magnifying glass and my two pointers.

I hope this answers your question on the TRX. I would be glad to answer any more you may have.

Here is an example of what the TRX did for me this last weekend. I got a 12:08 hit in a sandy swing set area , I knew it was shallow so l did not bother with pinpointing with the CTX, I just grabbed the TRX and about 7 seconds later I uncovered a gold ring with a pearl.
