Me and Goio were attacked today by a thief trying to rob us!!!!

Self defence..... " why yes sir" to the policeman, " I did leave him breathing"

This is the side of the hobby that we all think about and hope won't happen. Sorry to hear about what happened to you and hopefully their won't be a next time. I often think when I am down the beach who would just come up and rob us especially when we are hunting in the dark. I guess you can't live in fear of everything but seeing something like that happen to you makes one wonder and be more careful.

...just how safe we are when detecting, even on a crowded beach. Thieves snatch purses and run without onlookers coming to our aid (this happened to me last year in a McDonald's), so how likely is it that anyone will stop a theif and come to our aid if one day we're detecting and someone comes to ask us typical questions, including "how much does that detector cost?" - then grabs our detector and runs? I have worried about that on beaches before. I don't answer exactly how much any more. I typically say, "Oh, they can range from a couple hundred and up. I know SOME people who spend over $1,000 for a machine." As if that's a lot. (If it's some old person or a family with babies, someone I don't think will grab my detector and run, I sometimes give a more accurate response.)

I guess I should be carrying pepper spray. It's a scary world out there, as these young men who were victims of assault can attest to.

We all need to have eyes in the back of our heads these days.

Be safe, everyone!
