Well I had a great time this Sunday at the annual club hunt in St.Louis...even though my girlfriend's 11 year old son found THREE 14K rings in the planted hunt and I found ZERO! I have never participated in a planted hunt before but must admit it was a blast and ended up with a jackload of silver as did everyone else. My lady and her boy had a blast and thats what I was looking for. Myselff...I would rather hunt for 4 hours and dig just one silver deepie but again...the day was wonderful and very well organized and I can't wait to do it again sometime.. We arrived back home after the hunt ended and I realized I still had 3 hours of daylight so off I went. About 99% of the time I'm rushed so I headed to another site that myself and others have pounded for 30+ years. I kept saying to myself "okay take this 6" coil off and put the 12.5 Excelerator coil back on so you can cover more ground". When I got there I just couldn't take the 6" excelerator coil off because it's found me tons of stuff the last few weeks. Well it didn't disappoint! Like I stated in my last post..I know these finds may not be much to many of you but if you knew how many times I have hit the site in the last 30 years..you would know how good it feels to pull these goodies from the ground. I ended up with 12 wheaties...2 silver quarters (can't tell you how long it's been since I found 2 in one hunt)...1 merc...and the most detailed indian head I've found in years. I also dug down right at 10" for the junk wedding band and the 6" excelerator gave a solid high tone hit at that depth which amazes me. The little thing between the ring and the broken key is an indian chief's head stick pin and it was down 8". It is very detailed and will clean up nicely. I'm looking forward to the forum hunt in St.Louis this weekend and I honestly think I'll leave this 6" coil on quite a bit of the time. I know the perfect spot at Forest Park to put it to the test because it's the trashiest area I've ever hunted. There has to be a barber or a seated sitting between some trash so I hope I can sniff one out. I hope some of you decide to come even if it is just to meet others and have an informal hunt. That's going to be half the fun for me...just seeing and hopefully hunting with some of you that post here on the forum.
