Melanoma Skin Cancer

Even though I never post, I have been reading messages on this board for more than a year and feel like I know many of you personally. At the beginning of the year my partner and I decided to sell our business. After reading post on this board I decided to to purchase the exployer 2 and resume the hobby I enjoyed more than 25 years ago. During the spring and summer I started getting the hang of the exployer. We sold the business on 9-10-04 and I was diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer on 9-03-04 and will be taking treatments for at least 1 year. I'm asking each of you to always apply sun screen and wear appropriate clothing when detecting. Examing the body for any changes in moles. If you have a mole in the scalp have someone examine it on a regular basis. I hope this information will help each of you become familiar with this type cancer. Early detection is the key for cure.

Very sorry to hear about your situation and the point you make is very important. I have a very bad habit of not letting anything get in the way of detecting, and usually won't even take a 5 minute break even if everyone I'm hunting with is. The problem is more times than I would want to remember my sunblock and sunglasses were only a 2 minute walk away but I would do without for as long as it took before I absolutley had to back to the car. Next year I plan to correct some of those mistakes, and your post will be one thing that reminds me. Hope your treatment goes well and you should keep posting.

Gene, I hope and pray everything goes well in what is ahead of you. Thank you for the message to take a few mins to protect our skin. Besides MDing, I play lots of golf mostly in the hottest months. I will heed the advice. Please continue to post,I will look forward to it.

hope you'll be ok and be able to return to hunting next season!
I get checked once a year by dermatologist for skin cancer after having several minor growths removed.
Fair skinned esp. must look out. Higher rate of this problem, and the ozone will not be getting any better.
